I cannot turn it off, scared about bone stuff

Postby Cancerislame » Sun Sep 24, 2017 2:30 am

Hello colon family,

I have not been on in a while. I have been cancer free 5 years and just graduated from 4 month MRI s to 6 month MRI s. I had it Monday, Friday my primary's nurse called and said I needed a bilatteral hip xray so she see my right femur. The nurse said the ortho ordered it and I should get it this weekend. So....now I have no idea what is going on. My right hip and IT band have hurt pretty bad for over a month. The xray tech had to retake my right hip because it first looked grainy. I am scared twice...is it colon cancer metasis or is it a stress fracture or worse. Then if its nothing...what about the pain and the cryptic message from mu primary. Fortunately, I have my onc appt Monday...but crap I am scared.

Any suggestions or good thoughts will help.

Thank you,
Jennifer

Tell yourself it is nothing and enjoy your Sunday! If you are right, you avoided worrying and ruining your day. If you are wrong, worrying all day won't make any difference. Save all your worrying until that very long drive to your appointment on Monday.

I hope it's nothing. My onc told me not to worry about pain unless it keeps me up at night. I even had pain in my liver area, but it wasn't keeping me up at night. Turned out to be gall stones. Yay! I have gall stones! I was so happy to hear that. It's amazing how cancer puts things in perspective.

It would be super hard not to worry. I find if I keep my focus on the moment I'm in (not always easy), I can release the stress and enjoy where I am. Mediation has been incredibly helpful through this journey.

Hugs to you, have a beautiful day.

Thank you, for your good thoughts! Still, NED! 5.5 years cancer free almost 7years from stage iv dx. The trouble with my femur is still unknown. My onc. Read the xray to me but said and ortho will have to follow up. The xray read possible fracture or Avascular necrosis (AVN), also called osteonecrosis, aseptic necrosis, or ischemic bone necrosis, is a condition that occurs when there is loss of blood to the bone. ... If not stopped, this process eventually causes the bone to collapse. Avascular necrosis most commonly occurs in the hip. So that sounds a little scary but Not cancer, yay!

Wonderful!!

Cancerislame wrote:. . . ortho will have to follow up . . . . most commonly occurs in the hip . . . sounds a little scary . . .

I googled Avascular Necrosis ( yeah, I still google sometimes), it seems there are various ways to deal with it.

I don't know if this makes sense to your situation. Earlier this yr (Jan), I had a hip replacement after chemo. Found it scary, but having it done was piece of cake.
Operation at 07:30 AM -- walking (crutches) at noon -- released from hosp 08:30 AM next day. Crutches gone 3 weeks later.
No pains since. All forgotten now. I wish you'll also find an easy way out . . . .,

Congrats on NED, best wishes for bones
