Re: Reversal Thread

Well, had my first (pun intended) crappy experience, at the World Series no less! I took my nine year old and we had good seats in a field box along the third base line. The first home run passed about 20 yards in front of us and exited the park just inside the foul pole about 30 yards away. We got there two hours early and watched batting practice. It was great.

I'm over a month out from reversal and have been doing really well (after a week of adjustment after surgery). I've been doing so well and eating a regular diet that I didn't give two thoughts about going to the game or watching what I eat or drink. I hadn't before noticed any triggers. However, I have been drinking prune juice at night, which has the effect of basically emptying my system and then no worries the next day. No prune juice today, obviously.

We got to the park and had hotdogs and popcorn for dinner before the game. It was a blast. Then, in the third inning, I started cramping. You know what happened next. The stadium was capacity, obviously, and the line to the bathroom was easily 50 deep most of the time, although it went amazingly fast. Had four BMs at the ballpark and had to clean seats of piss to sit down. I went back to my seat a couple of times but the churning would start again. Made it to the sixth before giving up.

I had a beer early on and I'm not a beer drinker. Not sure if my body has listened to what I've been teaching it and decided, "hey, it's 9pm, time to empty out," or the hot dog, popcorn and beer triggered the reaction. Either way, it sucked.

Cramped on the way home, but no emergencies, and am still emptying out. Had to break out the baby wipes and butt cream for the first time in a long time. Anyway, I feel like that dumbass Icarus who flew too close to the sun. I tempted fate and I lost. Great pregame and first three innings, though.

So sorry to hear this. I could def see popcorn being a culprit. One of my fav foods, and one that well over 4 years I still can have issues with. And I rarely have issues (daily enema). You might want to wait a konth and try the popcorn again...at home  butt co grats because overall,,,you are doing amazing!!!

Yeah sometimes it just happens without notice. I've been places where I've had to leave because of being in the bathroom so much. You went to a good game though.
Hope you had fun. Go Astros! We do miss Justin Verlander here in Detroit.

I can see the popcorn too. Even with the daily enema, some foods can make that less an easy process than normal. Last night I had Chinese and noticed my enema this morning taking a little more time.

Bumping this thread only to report all is well. I still drink prune juice in the evenings because it had worked so well but not sure if I really need it. Other than a few minor hiccups - none of which were accidents or other embarrassing situations - all has been great. I’m not going to bump this thread again unless there is a change in my status but after nearly three months of “all is well” I think that unlikely.

The summary, for those of you in the future that may find this, is:

40 y/o male, stage iii
No chemorad (6 rounds folfox instead)
LAR/TME - 90% of rectum and 42 lymph nodes removed
Temp Ileo for app. 2 months
Reversal 9/25/17
Reversal recovery largely uneventful, clustering on 2-3 occasions
Prune juice in most evenings to move things along

Good luck fellow travelers!
