Health insurance coverage

Postby MKC70 » Mon Sep 18, 2017 5:48 pm

Not sure if it's OK to post here, but curious about the best health insurance you have for. I have premera until the end of October, then I have to choose between Aetna or United healthcare. Anyone on either of these.... Aetna, I am looking at easy choice A or a choice plus plan with United health care. Thanks for input

If you had to choose between the two, I would pick Aetna.I have friends that have Aetna and they actually pay them to go for 2nd opinions. Aetna seems to have perks that others do not. My friend that has United Health has nothing but trouble.

I have United Healthcare Choice and it's been great. 2K max out-of-pocket (well, there are some copays that go over that but not a big issue so far). I suspect that healthcare plans vary by employer as I've seen numbers that are all over the place for copays, deductibles, etc. even on similar-sounding plans. I think that you're best off doing comparisons that your employer should provide for you.

I have United Healthcare Heritage Plus through my wife's employer.
It's been great so far. Hit out of pocket fairly early so it's copays now.
My wife and I are fortunate with how both our employers are working with us on this.
My wife's boss which is over where she works isn't changing the insurance this year because it's been so great with covering the cancer treatment.
Stage IV Rectal cancer with liver mets
Oxaliplatin, avastin, 5fu
48 yr dude

We also had united health coverage, they too paid for second opinions. We had great coverage at the time when we needed it the most. United health care was very good to us through out the whole 5 years of treatment and the surveillance.

We are on United through my employer and it has been great for us with my wife for the past 5 years starting at surgery and in to surveillance. We have access to the major cancer centers in network and are currently using Duke for scans/surveillance with an onc.

The only issue was a procedure that came back and not medically necessary, which related to anesthesia. I called and the agent looked up the treatment and history saying that it was obviously a coding error since she was in the hospital for surgery at the time. She told me she would take care of it and I heard nothing further except a revised Statement of Benefits and a revised(downward) balance from the hospital.

They have never denied a scan during surveillance.

When I was working I had great United insurance, (and also great Cigna insurance), but I assume the coverage varies according to employer. It's been quite a while, but when my company had Aetna, they made tons of claim mistakes. Huge hassle for us "covered" folks. My employer ended up dropping them for this - BUT that was 10 years ago.
