Anyone have recommendations for oncologists and related doctors in the Kansas City area? Seeking a second opinion, and leaning towards KU Medical Center.

Bonus points for anyone close to Shawnee.

I don't know if you have liver involvement but Dr. Timothy Schmitt, liver transplant surgeon at KU, did my liver resection in 2010. He was in Virginia at that time.

Best to you,

I don't have a personal recommendation but University of Kansas Hospital is ranked 25th nationally for cancer by US News and World Report:

While Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis is ranked 19th:

I've been treated under the treatment of KU med folks since last Feb. - Dr Raed Al-Rajabi (oncologist) and Dr. John Ashcraft (colorectal surgeon) and all the great nurses. Both Drs. are personable and on top of what's going on with current/future trends, treatments, etc. All positive experiences and I have absolutely no regrets with my KU team. Surgery was good at the hospital (headed back next week for ileostomy takedown) and while I'd rather visit KC for something else, all my visits at Westwood center have been fine (e.g., on time, efficient, caring, professional, etc.). I'm out of town, so I did chemotherapy and radiation treatments locally; great coordination and communication between both KU doctors and the local treatment facilities and doctors.

I see Dr. Kasi at KU Med. All of my treatments and surgeries have been handled by KU. I have received many second opinions (Dana Farber, MD Anderson, etc) and KU was the only team to offer HIPEC and lymph node resection for my recurrence. I had HIPEC almost two years ago and I am doing great, currently NED. Can't say enough about KU Med and everyone I have encountered there. All the best to you.
