A high volume of liquid output is considered diarrhea with an ileostomy. Measure your output, anything over 1000 ml/day is diarrhea and you need to be careful of dehydration. Up your fluid intake.

Yes, you need to be able to recognize diarrhea while on ileostomy, and you need to know how to deal with dehydration in order to avoid serious kidney problems.

Thanks. It seems like it was just minor diarrhea and I'm not dehyrdrated. Been drinking a ton of water and some pedialyte and urinating normally.

Question regarding anemia. I was told that I had low iron counts this time but not enough to postpone chemo. The next one may be pushed back due to Christmas. I am wondering if it is normal? Perhaps still from the surgery? I had a bloody stool episode after this chemo and maybe I lost a lot of blood? I have no idea. Onc said we will avoid the shot if we postpone a week. I'm bummed but I get it. Big sigh...

My hemoglobin was always low. It tends to run on the low side of normal anyways. My oncologist prescribed ferrous sulfate. My hemoglobin was regular below 10 during chemotherapy.

I was severely anemic to start with, and have never gotten into the normal range. My numbers fluctuated during chemo. I take iron and vitamin C twice a day to help combat it.

Happy new yr everyone! Hoping you are all ok. Just checking in. Had chemo 5 and the fatigue has been hard. Onc wants me to ge the neulasta shot today. Depression continues. I don’t hear enough stories of stage 3c survivors and I get so worried. Reading everything about diet- trying the green tea, blueberries, dried plums, tumeric and cayenne ideas too. Wish I had the energy to exercise. NY winters are hard. Hoping you all are well!

I had Chemo 2 and it's been hard.

I do hear about stage 4 survivors and that's a good sign but the statistics overall aren't that good (still I think). It's five days since infusion and I'm going to try to walk today. Have been spending a lot of time in bed the long weekend. I need to go into the office for a while too.

Hi! I am also 3c but possibly IV. I also have two kids, a bit younger than yours. Having surgery to remove the tumor in two weeks, but I already have a colostomy because of blockage after radiation.

About being depressed, I am so happy because I started again doing exercizes for the abdomen, I was expecting some hormonal swings because of radio induced menopause. I don’t know maybe is the chemo as well making you depressed?

We are going to make the next statistics, the one available now is old with respect to new therapies. I think I have to live the last time I have as happy as possible for the people around me, maybe it will be a long time or not, but at least lets’ make it be nice.

However I think hormons, chemo, radio, can also make us depressed, it doesn’t help to be positive if there is a chemical or physical problem. Have you tried to get something against depression?

All the best

Claudia

I finally had to get medication for my depression. I was trying to be strong, but it was taking its toll on me. There is no shame in asking for help. We go through a lot with this.

Ok freaking out. Four days of some bright red blood on the stool and in the bowl. Headed to the gi dr tomorrow. Scared too death. I’m in the middle of chemo. I have #6 on Friday and onc said it may have to stop for a colonoscopy. Could it be the chemo? Lack of water? Something minor?

hey, teacher!

i have worried about all of the same things...from all of my readings and talking to the doctor, could be several issues. one could be your resection site. takes several months for it to properly heal and chemo exacerbates this process. could be the chemo itself and the havov it wreaks on you immune system and cellular well being. your white and red blood cells are certainly affected. platelets as well. the doctor will want to take a look. but i sincerely doubt with your low grade diagnosis there has been a resurgence or new growth, not in a relatively short time with your chemo almost halfway done. i am no doctor, for sure, but i would guess that it’s chemo related.

please let us know what you learn and prayers to you. all will be okay, you have to believe that!

Mark

Haven’t posted in a while and I hope you are all well. I am coming upon chemo 8. It hasn’t been easy and the onc lowered the oxi due to neuropathy. She did say that as long as I did 6 full oxis, it was the same as 12 according to recent studies. She also said all my numbers are good. That we will wait for a scan and colonoscopy at the end of treatment. I can actual see the end in sight and really hope I’m all clear. I have to focus on being ok and getting this port out too. I feel well. It’s the chemo that kicks me down. I am sleeping better at night and the nightmares have subsided. But it’s like a see saw. Let’s hope chemo 8 isn’t too terrible. Hopin gyou are all making plans to do something fun. Spring is coming...

You are really close to the end of the mop up chemo! I hope the next rounds are not so hard and you will be NED for ever!

If the oncologist says 6 is like 12, are you not tempted to stop now that you are over 6?

All the best

Claudia

I think that the onc meant the total amount of Oxy. If you cut the dosage it can take more to get there.
