Your liver has completely grown back since your resection date was back on September 12th. However, there's a fair amount of fluid left surrounding the area that needs to dissipate. Sometimes it can cause weird twinges/pains as it reduces in size and everything moves back into place.

It could also be something simple, like a kink in your intestines or a gas bubble. After you have cancer, it's hard not to worry about every little ache and pain, especially a sharp pain like you had. I'd put money on the liver respositioning itself, but try not to worry. Your CEA is low, your last scan was clear, you're doing GREAT! :D

so i asked my doctor and he said cancer itself does not hurt...only if it is obstructing or has impinged a nerve. believe it may be your liver healing. it's an amazing organ.

Sooooooo- I went to the general dr the other day for a check up and mainly because my last one will not take my insurance anymore. I tell her my story and I cry. I was stage 3c and it went to my liver. Had it resectioned - now NED. She says “well at least you aren’t stage 4!!!” I was in shock! Wtf?

Anyway she attributed my bloody stool episodes to the low dose aspirin I was taking. So I stopped. That was a week or so ago. Today- another epsilon’s. I’m worried. I have a scan on March 2nd. Should I wait or run to a gi dr??? Could it just be a hemmoriod? Food related? Or am I in trouble again???

hey, i had blood before and it was nothing. it actually takes time for aspirin even low doses to completely leave your system and lessen the side effects. i doubt it is anything related to your diagnosis, likely just a hemi. hang in there!

Positive vibes coming your way. I understand the anxiety, my one year scan is coming up in April. It's the first one since graduating to a yearly scan schedule. Been having them every 6 months which gave me more security. I know being moved to yearly scans is a good thing, but some much can happen in a year. I still get bloodwork every 6 months and CEA in November was 0.6. Prayers for a great scan.

Hi Lydia,Our oncologist wants to put my husband on maintenance chemo because of his extensive liver involvement. He had 12 lesions in the liver. Our oncologist strongly believes doing maintenance chemo can minimize the chance of recurrence especially for the most critical first two three years after surgery.

The interesting thing is our liver surgeon disagrees. He doesn’t think it’s necessary to do maintenance chemo. However, my husband feels that he can manage the side effects ok so he decided to be on it, at least for the first two three years.
