GI Surgeon wants chest added back to my ct scan

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Fri Sep 08, 2017 7:40 pm

My GI surgeon wants chest added back to my yearly ct scans on September 22nd because of the CEA rise. I left a message asking my doctor to add chest back in because my GI surgeon recommended it. I will call Monday to make sure they have added it. I am relieved that they will be checking chest as well.

Thank you Lee, I really appreciate that! I hope so too! I broke my little toe while in Toronto and have been taping it. I know there's not much that can be done for it.

I know it's so hard. I have a scan in October also. My scan last April showed a small 4mm nodule. Doctor thinks it's scar tissue but too small to biopsy or do pet scan. So we just have to keep monitoring watching for growth. I had a repeat scan in July and there was no change, which is good. I'll have another in October, and hopefully there will be no change or shrinkage. Again, praying for good results for you. Keep us updated. The worry never ends. It's always in our heads, even though we continue to go about our day as normally as possible. And most days we do pretty well, just sometimes you can't shake it.

I hate it when I do things like that. Many years ago, I tripped over a barrier at bottom of stairs. New puppy not allow up stairs just yet. Anyway, I tripped, felt a snap, didn't think much of it. Could not walk normal on foot. Few days later, went to see the Dr. I was complaining about the sprained area. Dr was sure it was not broken butt order a x-ray. At x-ray, I could tell they found something and asked. Yes I broke my little toe (hum. . . that must be the snap I felt). Was told to go home, Dr would be calling me. Yep he sure did, wanted to see me now.

I went in, he pressed on that broken spot, though I going through the roof, the PAIN  . He followed up with, "well I'm happy", me I was in tears. We finally determined the way I was walking (thanks to the sprain), little toe had no pressure, thus no pain.

Two weeks later, when sprain was going away, I sure found the broken spot on my toe every time I stepped on it. Best advice I can give you, wear quality comfortable shoes. They did not tape my toe, just get quality shoes to wear from awhile.

I feel your pain, hope it gets better soon.

Susie,

I hope that your scans show no change!*hugs*

Lee,

That sounds very painful!*hugs* I wear sneakers when out. If I don't tape my toe it hurts much more in the show. The bottom part of my foot in back of my toes is swollen toe.

Cowgirl,

Yes the waiting is very hard! September 22nd isn't too far away but October 5th seems far away.

Thanks Susie, Lee and Cowgirl!

DarknessEmbraced wrote:I found out why my ct scans were moved up and it has nothing to do with scheduling. It's because my CEA(tumor marker) is 46. Before surgery in 2014 it was below 1 and it has always been below 1 up until now. I get my ct scan on September 22nd and see the doctor for follow up on October 5th. From everything I'm reading normal CEA is below 5.

Have you scheduled a re-test of your CEA yet? I think it would be good to have another measurement before October 5 so that your doctor can have complete and up-to-date information on your current CEA level.

My CEA checks are scheduled at the hospital. The next one is scheduled for November. I'm seeing the doctor filling in for my family doctor.

I still think you should have your CEA re-tested before they do the CT scan. Is there any way you can get one of your doctors to order the re-test now?

Or could you contact Horizon Healh Network to see if they could arrange a re-test for you?

According to their own terms and conditions :
http://en.horizonnb.ca/facilities-and-s ... ction.aspx

NOTE: We can only accept test orders from doctors or health care providers who have privileges with the New Brunswick College of Physicians.
SO it would appear this needs to be ordered through the normal chain of command anyway ... JMO

I also query : why do another marker test when a CT imaging is on order ??????

CEA can be notoriously "over" interpretted and "under" reliable.
Get the proper imaging into the hands of the specialists who need to SEE what is going on, so they can plan the PLAN !
I believe C-A-P CT scans are warranted for CRC follow ups ... UNTIL proven otherwise for each individual case.

JMO ..... BTDT....

My doctor won't retest now. Everything has to go through my doctors. I can't call the hospital and get tests. The doctor sends the requisition form to the hospital and they send me a letter in the mail with the appointment date and time. Chest, abdominal, pelvis.
