ocstacy, I too, commend you for providing your mom w/the level of care necessary to figure out what is going on. Having done that in my time as a caregiver for my mom, I can guarantee it is more uncomfortable/embarrassing for the look-EE, than the look-ER! And I never had any desire for nursing, certainly not Mother Teresa. You just have to know what you are dealing with to provide relief or relay to docs if necessary. There are so many ways good home care can aid in comfort & healing. Good home care is serious business in a loving setting.

I recall the time in the docs office he had a scope up my mom's back end & he asked me if I wanted to take a look   I thought, "What the heck, when will I ever get to see the inside of a colon again"?! My mother was probably about my age @ the time, so I was younger than you.

There are worse things to look at, for instance my DH's long, deep, open, infected abdominal incision from colectomy that I had to keep clean & change out the wound vacuum dressings. I'll stop there.

Keep up the good work.

Best Wishes

This is about where I am with Xeloda and radiation. I don't have the pee issues but the rest sounds like me. For me, the tumor popped out two months ago and I had to pop it back in but it is stuck now. That it can move around in your mother may be a good sign as it means that it hasn't invaded the muscle yet. My surgeon mentioned that it might be a tumor over a polyp which would be the best case but it was not to be for me.

Mike, with all due respect to you, I feel compelled to let you know that that is not how anatomy works. Tumors do NOT pop out. If tumors aren't attached to a vascular supply they die, butt they still wouldn't "pop out" If you had something pop out, that you could then repace, it almost certainly would have been a hemorrhoid.

Best wishes to you.

Well hello Bev,
I agree with you. Tumors are disintegrated by the radiation, anything popping out, is probably a hemorrhoid. The feeling of razor blades, Yes I hated that, is when your tumor is tearing away and I might add, that is a very good sign ! You sir are getting your money's worth !

The tumor moved around a lot. The surgeon noted this during her examination and part of it could come outside so that I could see it. She thought that it might be a tumor on top of a large polyp. Unfortunately, it invaded the muscle about two weeks later and then became fixed in place. This was before any treatment started.

That is feasible ! to your good fortune, if the tumor just adhered, there is little chance of further invasion !

I know. I was likely 3A before it invaded. The surgeon was surprised - she look at the MRI and saw it. That's why I was so eager to get treatment started. Cancer can work very fast. If I had been diagnosed a month earlier or treatment started three weeks earlier, the potential for a reversal could have been a lot better. I will tell anyone that if you have cancer, get it looked at and taken care of as waiting can be either deadly or result in greater loss of functionality after cure.

I really drew the genetic short straw eh? My primary tumor is staged 3a and it still metastasized. :(

That makes me feel more positive. I kept asking the oncologist and radiation oncologist that if the tumor could grow fast and he said he didn't think so due to it being a low grade. I still worry

There's always someone that's better off than we are and it could be genetics, environment or just bad luck. We could be hit by a car, a hurricane or any other of the horrible things that happen to people every day. Your story is certainly a cautionary tale to the rest of us and it's certainly on my mind and I have no full assurance that it won't happen to me or others here. I do hope that you stick around and that science does come up with something to get rid of this kind of cancer in the near future.

Exactly. Feel so sorry for the all the peeps affected by hurricane irma, harvey, and Lydia. We cancelled our mexico trip this upcoming weekend due to all the storms. We were able to get a full refund from the resort and airlines gave us a credit to take the flight within one year. Cancer is like a hurricane if ya think about it. Ya never know when it's coming, and it could be a size 1-5. Catastrophe or what not. My colonoscopy came out clear, yet I was nervous and scared and thought the worst. My mom's came out to be stage 3A and we will find out next week after her MRI what the stage will be after that. She mentioned that the stabbing, burning pain (she mentioned icicles or ice pain) has slowly diminished. Her emotions are so up and down. I see her cry at times and it makes me sad but I try to cheer her up. I know this support group can be sad and happy. I can see why others could get upset at someone if they mention they are cancer-free or that their cancer got worst. I just pray for a miracle each day. We are true Buddhist- Soka Gokkai Ikeda http://www.sgi.org/about-us/buddhism-in ... e-kyo.html Prayers to each and every one of you.

2."It is painful to suffer illness, but the most painful thing of all is to feel abandoned by everyone, that no one cares about you. When the dark hole of despair pierces your heart, your life force drains away. That is why it is so important not to abandon or forget those who are sick or in trouble. We need to continuously and gently communicate to them that we sincerely want them to get better."
