Cimetidine/Tagamet Advice

Postby Vwf123 » Mon Aug 28, 2017 10:31 am

Can anyone give me an idea about dosage of Cimetidine pre and post surgery? I'm scheduled to have a liver resection in 5 days (had a colon resection 18 months ago). I read on the web the recommendation was 800 mg three times a day prior to surgery and then 800 mg twice a day post surgery for 10 days. Then 800 mg daily. Would really appreciate any advice/feedback.
Thanks!

Here is a thread from 2015 that discusses some Cimetidine dose issues

800 mg/day is the base CRC dosage. 1000 - 1600 mg per day has some discussion and perhaps dose related effects, both benefits and potential side effects. The surgeons developed cimetidine dosing in their tables for surgery itself in the 1980s, for prophylaxis of acid aspiration, before the marketing of proton pump inhibitors. Proton pump inhibitors have no CRC treatment value. We actually got the support of the surgeon for cimetidine during surgery the second time around; the first surgeon "forgot" all about it.

Of course, the hospital pharmacy discovered they didn't have any injectable cimetidine on the night before, very late. So the second surgeon okayed oral dosing, which I happened to have a box of tablets with me....

Also I've listeded presurgery and CRC articles to read and some extra blood tests, which are most valuable before and after surgery.
watchful, active researcher and caregiver for stage IVb/c CC. surgeries 4/10 sigmoid etc & 5/11 para-aortic LN cluster; 8 yrs immuno-Chemo for mCRC; now no chemo
most of 2010 Life Extension recommendations and possibilities + more, some (much) higher, peaking ~2011-12, taper chemo to almost nothing mid 2018, IV C-->2021. Now supplements

Sorry - I don't see the articles. Could you provide the links for me?
