Juicing

Postby hany » Wed Aug 23, 2017 8:54 pm

Hi, Since my mom's diagnosis last year, part of her lifestyle management is juicing which there are many claims in the internet that this really cures cancer. Though for the past months, my mom is not religiously juicing, i would like to continue this and be permanently part of her lifestyle. Is there anyone on this forum who is juicing? do you have any tips on what to juice for someone who has a rectal cancer and 4 lung nodules (not yet confirm if these are mets).
currently, we are using
carrots, cucumber, apple and sometimes redbeets.

we are living in a tropical country and have a limited variations of fruits and vegetable.
My mom
dx 8/2016 ultra low rectal cancer
Stage 1 T2N0M0
perm colostomy
no chemo/rad
2/2017 CEA 0.97
clear abdomen ct and chest xray
8/2017 CEA 1.15
clear abdomen ct
4 lung nodules 7mm biggest

prayer can move mountains

Hello. We heard juicing quite a lot in Hong Kong as well. The veges we use are carrots, potatoes and apples. Lots of people here saying uncooked potatoes are rely helpful. Wish your family all the best. My mum is facing rectal cancer as well.

I understand that you're concerned and you wish the best for your mom - looking for the certainty we all need during/after the ordeal. But what works for one, is not necessarily a solution for everyone: not all find comfort in the same ceremonies or changes in life style. Most important, I think, is that your mom finds a new lifestyle that she herself is comfortable with. If that's without juicing, let it be.

My position on this is that the 'research' that substantiates most of life-style claims is based on a comparison of habits among specific (e.g.regional) groups of people who happen to have been living on a specific diet that is different from what we're used to: people who -for many many years- have been living on a specific diet and who show a better or worse health thing. Very nice, but even assuming that a specific habit indeed leads to avoidance of an health issue, it is beyond me that a sudden embrace of a new habit can/will have any effect this late in our lifes. As if quitting smoking could reverse lung cancer . . .

If a change in life style or eating habit helps finding a positive attitude, fine. If not, find something else. I myself (we) moved house and town to start a new life (see sign.) And we can mostly live without cancer fears now (though check-up reviews are still upsetting - I get pretty emotional then, funny enough not until the ride back home) :)

I wish you and your mom the same.
Take care, Leon

You can go ahead with juicing if it helps with your peace of mind.

At the same time it makes sense to learn how to distinguish real medical science and common superstitions.

Personally I pay attention to what is published in peer reviewed medical magazines (you can find them on Medscape, Medline etc.) and on websites of major hospitals like Mayo Clinc http://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/cancer-treatment/basics/definition/prc-20027139.

Typically I ignore what's published on other websites and especially on web sites that sell something like Mercola site.
58 yo male at diagnosis: T1bN0M0, 0/15 nodes, low grade/moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma
03/2016 colonoscopy: 2 small polyps removed in left colon; CEA = 1.3
04/2016 colonoscopy: caecum sessile 3.5 cm polyp piecemeal removed with kind of clear margins
05/2016 "prophylactic" laparoscopic right hemicolectomy - bleeding, leak, infection
06/2017 CT scan, colonoscopy OK; CEA = 1.6
A lot of funny stuff discovered by CT scans in liver, kidney, lungs, arteries, gallbladder, lymph node, pancreas

I love to juice, but can't have raw foods now due to neutropenia. Pre diagnosis I juiced off and on quite a bit.
It really seemed to boost my energy levels and overall FEELing of well being. When I go Off chemo and good blood counts - I will Juice away, but not for now - it's too much infection risk.

While Juicing alone probably isn't going to cure anyone of cancer, it can certainly make you feel better and that alone is a good thing.
