Jannine wrote:I am so with you on flash! I never feel like I get good results with it, and I'm not motivated to mess with indirect lighting and really get into the weeds of how to make that work without a flash that accommodates that sort of thing well, like your GF-1. Most of my photos are taken outside and are of the city or of nature. I only rarely photograph people. I actually got into looking for a good low-light camera because for a while I took a LOT of photos of sunsets over the city. In those conditions the contrast can make it really hard to get a good-looking photo that comes even vaguely close to what the sky and city really looked like at the time. I found that if the colors were right the photos end up way too grainy to be useful. I'm all about the backlit landscape, haha.

I'll sort through some of my sunset photos and post a few of my favorites soon.

Here's a sunset for you taken from my S8 phone:

Finally got around to dloading images off my Note 8 from our South Sister climb - July 21/22
All images are hyperlinked - you can click and expand for full view.

Coming into Lake Moraine, where we camped
Image

On the bank of the lake
Image

South Sister summit from Lake Moraine Meadow
Image

Starting Ascent, can see some old Lava Flow
Image

Little higher, Lake Moraine is that small body of water left of center
Image

Little more elevated. Mt Bachelor (popular ski area) is the Mt left in view.
Image

Higher up yet. Small green glacier lake is Teardrop lake. Popular rest area.
The red cinder rock makes this last bit of the hike very slow going. Rocks get into the shoes.
Each step up results in half a step slide back. Much like hiking up a sand dune.
Image

South Sister Summit. A very large glacier resides relatively flat on the summit.
This day thousands of small butterflies fluttered about. Most likely part of mating games.
You can catch a glimpse of some of these in the picture along with humanoids traversing the glacier
from the entrance to the summit across the field of view.
Image

Looking Northwest from the summit. You can see the middle and north sisters (thus Three Sisters).
3 finger jack can be seen as well as Mt Jefferson a little further. Followed by Mt. Hood. While its hard
to make out in the picture, even Mt. Adams was visible to my naked eye, as I'm blessed with 20/10 vision.
Image

At the summit I waited around for around an hour for my hiking companions to show, but they never did.
So I walked back to the summit entrance. After a few text msgs (yeah I had 3 full bars way up here at 11k feet).
I gathered that they had run out of water. I encouraged them to summit as there was this small glacier pool that
we could filter water from. About 15 minutes later they arrived. We filled up our water packs, ate some grub,
chilled for about a half hour and then descended back to camp where we collapsed the tents and packed out.
Image

One last look at Lake Moraine and the trail back down to the car.

Would you consider a photo of Dracula's Castle, taken about two weeks ago, in the Transylvania region of Romania?

Stu, you were transported across the Pacific Ocean to the High Desert area of Central Oregon, USA. A very popular area for recreation w/approx 300 days of sunshine. Parts of Central Oregon rich in fossils, lava beds from volcanic activity estimated about 35 million years ago, also estimated to have been undersea volcanoes @ one time.
Benben, beautiful pictures, breathtaking views! I did enlarge via the links. Thanks for sharing w/narratives.

Yes BS it is Central Oregon. I don't know if the sisters see 300 days of sunshine being the mountains, but yes far less rain then west of the cascades.
From your lovely mobile garden pics and surrounding yard, I'd guess you're somewhere west of the cascades. I miss those evergreen forests, as I'm
now located in the definite High desert up here in Tri-cities. It's a long drive to hike in the woods for me now. Once upon a time I lived in the Welches area.
Literally packed my back pack, strapped it on and left the front door to hike the Mt Hood Nationals. Good times.

You have really big gardens . Unfortunately being anywhere in the commuter belt means we have very small gardens . Still we did get a small burn running through it . I never get house envy but a bit more land would be great . Really sandy soil .
Looks fantastic .

Where you at OSM? Did you turn into a BAT?

I am traveling at sea and on a slow satellite connection. The photos are on my hard drive at home and inaccessible to me right now. I should be back home by Halloween, however.

BTW, thanks for posting the HIPEC info on SkiFletch on the other thread. I couldn't get a satellite internet connection until just now and couldn't post a timely reply on that other thread.

I'm sorry, but I cannot upload any photos to the Internet right now because of bandwidth limitations here. I have some dark, somber photos that might eventually qualify, but for now I am limited to text messages.

If you are interested in seeing some nice, bright photos of your area (PNW, Columbia Gorge, etc.) here is a text link to a sample collection:

I have never been to Oregon or Washington, but I might decide to go there some day.

Hey Mo for some reason your links are not resolving from tinypic
so I listed them and folks can follow them to see your pix.
You may wish to try imgur or dumparump for alternate hosting sites
UPDATED NOTE : seems to be an issue with my Firefox setup as the pixs show fine with Safari
