As peanut noted it is a hibiscus. Definitely not native to Canada!! I loved seeing them when we went on vacations to Jamaica. They grow to be chest height bushes there. Mine won't. I'll have to bring it inside in just a few weeks as nights here will be too cold. :(

Your nephew did a terrific job on the wishing well by the way. Every layer lines up perfectly. And the staining job is equally as good.

Got an email from Karen (Miss Molly), and she sent this pic.

Karen says,

Here is Abby. 9 months of age. 6 pounds.

Abby is everything that I could hope for in a new little heartbeat. She is bright and inquisitive. Fast as a cheetah on her feet, playful and engaging. Abby loves to cuddle. She is a true cuddle-monger - which I love. Abby brings smiles and sunshine wherever she goes.

Disgusting. She has been pretty much trained to stay out of the flowerbeds, but now she goes looking for it. Don't know what it is about cat dung dog's seem to like, but she hasn't done that in years.

I have 2 ferals and 1 abandon cat living in my back yard. Don't know if you followed, butt 2 summer's ago I found a 3 1/2 week old kitten in my backyard. Miss Kitty. Here is here thread

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54823&hilit=ot+found+feral+kitten

Anyway, Miss Kitty's mom and dad are welcome to live in our backyard. Since Harlee has passed, they have become much bolder about hanging out in the back porch. We also acquired an orange cat that I believe was abandoned and days away from death. Thus I started feeding them. When the monsoon season hit, I started feeding them under the porch. They know when it is dinner time and sometimes come around in the morning to say. Can we have breakfast too???

We have coyotes around here and cats are an easy meal especially those abandon and declawed. We also have owls that hunt them. We have lots of cover in our backyard and I believe they are mostly safe.

I remember when Harlee was a puppy and would eat those little snackers, GROSS  She finally out grew them at about 2-3 yrs of age. My daughter was convinced she was keeping s stash behind a certain bush.

Stu, it is really easy to post pictures here.

You first need to upload your photos to a picture hosting site. I used tinypic.com. You don't need to set up an account with them if you don't want to, it's free, and they have very simple instructions to guide you through the uploading and sharing process. The only downside to picture hosting sites is that anyone can copy your photos, so be careful on what you share.

Sorry I am in bit of a rush now, or I would give step by step instructions. Give it a whirl and if you have difficulties I can help later today?

cheers,

A standing ovation to Peanut/Terri for extending a helping hand of friendship and technological expertise in posting photographs on my behalf of both sweet Molly (departed) and Abby.

Thank You, Peanut.

Abby is a gem. I honestly believe that a thread of Molly’s spirit continues in Abby. Abby is completing certification as a service dog. A local organization and dog behaviorist has been working with Abby to be able to detect (by canine’s keen sense of smell) impending low cortisol/Addison’s crises.

BS, I had to smile on reading about your outing to Dairy Queen for a doggie ice cream cone. Molly adored going through the local drive through for a shared milkshake. She wore the resulting milk mustache with pride.

Portland, Oregon is a Mecca of coffee cafes. A local coffee cafe offers “puppa-chinos” to dogs visiting with their latte sipping owners. The “puppa-chino” is a 4 oz cup of chilled goats’ milk with a sprinkle of diced, air-dried lamb treats. The dogs, universally, enjoy the treat. Abby laps it up.

Adopting Abby was the right decision for me. I found that I have more love to share.

Sending tail wags and gentle belly rubs to Chloe,
Karen

Thank you stu, peanut, and BS.

I've lately been on a photography kick due to what looks like the end of my marriage. I find capturing things I run into during the course of my day a form of therapy. I still look back at the various pictures I've taken over the past year and still remember the feeling of the moment when I took them. The funny thing is all of these pics were taken with my Samsung S8 phone. I do have a very good, decent digital camera with Leica lenses. I haven't mastered the various settings to capture the same look I've been able to achieve on my phone with minimal tweaking. I used to be a photography snob and would scoff at the idea of pictures taken with a phone being good. Well, as you can see, I've done a 180.

I love black and white. B/W just conveys a deep emotional feel with pictures to the point of being a bit romantic. That's the eye I go with which has carried over when I used to do graphite/photo realistic drawings/sketches.

I ran across this thread and decided to post up the pictures I've been taking to hopefully share some of the feelings at the moment of when I took them. I'm glad you all are enjoying them and will post more.

zx10guy, I'm really curious what type of phone you have now! Those are great low-light photos from a cell phone camera.

Here's one I took on 4th of July 2014, of Orpheus (with his lyre and strategically placed fig leaf) on the grounds of Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland.
