Thank you all for what you "ALL" bring (sanity) to this part of the world (forum). Peanut, LOVED your bio and that beautiful vacation home!! BS, I can only dream of your flowers, my grandmother would be so proud of you. She LOVE growing flowers (including California Poppies-just beautiful). This was during the 1960's-1970's, she was shocked to learn what some people do with those beautiful flowers. Me like my mother did not inherit that gene.

MOB, I too am a big fan of Christmas vacation. I would wear those sweaters with pride. And I loved your treel Stu, I have family that came from part of your country, that came to the US sometime in the early part of the last century, it is an area I've always wanted to visit (bucket list). Please keep those beautiful pic coming.

To everyone, Happy New Year's and mostly Good Health!!

Peanut
loved that picture of the sunset. Pretty awesome and I can think of worse things to look at of an evening.
Sydney loves to put on fireworks on NYE, and this was was a bit of a damper.....huge thunderstorms from 5PM - 8PM. Then I went to a pub across the road (like about 50 yards across the road) where they had a rooftop view and sat there with Mrs Kiwi talking, drinking (It was her 45th birthday) and taking photos of the 9PM and midnight fireworks. Sorry, the photos were from my iPhone so not the best, but hope you enjoy.

OK, got it working but I can't work out how to post different images  maybe another time

I posted elsewhere to say that I moved from a unit (apartment) to a house recently, and it has been a slight adjustment from living in apartments for 20 odd years.
There is a lot of outside work and maintenance, and lots of interaction with Mother nature.
I recently came across 2 European Wasp nests on the exterior of my house. I thought I'd just try to remove the one I could reach and found out rapidly that they are aggressive, they protect their nest quickly, and they sting multiple times. Fortunately I did not take any photos so will give the pleasure of sharing those a miss.
I have a professional coming out next Tuesday to remove both nests :D

I've gotta work on that. I live in Arizona, brown boring countryside. Maybe I can show you how I spend my New Year's Eve. Tell me again how to post a pic here.

I use Tinypic . It’s free and easy for people like me who are not so good with technology.
You pic a file from your photos , then select message board . You sometimes have to fill out a security word to make sure you are real . Then press upload . Copy from your device . Pop on here and paste .
Or if you really get stuck Mr Crguy has let me email them then he uploads them for me . So out with his role but he’s that kind of guy .

Hey Peanut what’s that big knife for ??
I have spent the day feeding a little squirrel that is playing in my garden . A new neighbour has a new hobby . Killing them . So I have been busy quietly feeding it so it does not cross the road . My youngest son loves them . Ha

It's a 150 mm Japanese carbon steel petty knife. So far it's been used for vegetable prep. Very nice and really sharp. Going to have to learn how to sharpen it.

Peanut,
Just get one of those knife sharpening sets. Here is a link to the place I got mine from that shows you what they are. https://www.chefsarmoury.com/collection ... stone-sets
You just then follow the instructions, or go to you tube to see how to do it. My only advice is be a little careful with your fingers as the stones can remove your finger prints. I could not use touch on my iPhone as I removed my fingerprints when I first started.

So I am a high school math teacher and two years ago I was moved to a classroom down in the basement of my building—on a positive, it is a nice, large room and we are off the beaten path so administrators don’t bother you much down there. No windows down there and definitely not great cell service, so I decided to make it a little homey and personable. I came across a few signs that were $5 or less so not a big investment and my obsession began. Today I hung up signs #31 and #32. I also am cheap so I have only bought 8 of them up there, the rest I made by painting stretched canvases and doing the lettering using different fonts I look up, etc. I will be out and about or on the internet and come across a great sign or saying and I take a picture (because my brain is not what it used to be!) and then I get around to making a bunch of signs when I have the energy/ambition to get crafty. It really has become my pride and joy at work and the kids enjoy reading them as do my co-workers when they have to trek down to the basement for something. LOL

I know I said this before, but have to say again how much I LOVE reading through this thread and all of the cool pics and conversations you all so graciously share—THANK YOU!

BS, that Christmas flower was just beautiful, so perfect! I am not one to have a green thumb or really do much in the plant department, but I admire those who do! My neighbors across the street are amazing with their flowers so I am so lucky to live across from them and admire their talents. I do water the plants for them when they are away. And every year they make me a cool desk calendar with pictures of their various flowers for each month—it’s very impressive and so sweet of them!

Peanut, I really enjoyed your picture story of your move to TX with your vacation home in CA. I was like mob wondering how your holiday pics were in CA, but you list the capital of TX as your home place. I especially loved the pup pics! :D

Stu, wow that that squirrel went right up and sat on your son’s leg! We have our fair share of squirrels over here, but I haven’t ever seen one just go right up like that. I guess those NY ones are more civilized! By the way, would that be the Stu who inspired your name? And I have to say I am jealous that his school trip crossed the pond! Damn, I went to school in Pittsburgh and I don’t know that we ever took a school trip out of the state—well, I was in the marching band so we did do band trips on coach buses, but truly there was never an opportunity to travel out of the country (of course that was 30 years ago, I guess there are more trips abroad these days).

Happy New Year to everyone! I must admit, when I put the date on the board today I slipped and wrote 2018, but I at least caught myself!
