Think I need some sun glasses for that sunset, Stu. Wow! The color is incredible.

benben wrote:Yes BS it is Central Oregon. I don't know if the sisters see 300 days of sunshine being the mountains, but yes far less rain then west of the cascades.
From your lovely mobile garden pics and surrounding yard, I'd guess you're somewhere west of the cascades. I miss those evergreen forests, as I'm
now located in the definite High desert up here in Tri-cities. It's a long drive to hike in the woods for me now. Once upon a time I lived in the Welches area.
Literally packed my back pack, strapped it on and left the front door to hike the Mt Hood Nationals. Good times.

You are correct in that they like to promote the Bend area approx 20 miles from the town of Sisters(also Central Oregon) w/300 days of sunshine, however one chooses to measure. In the deserts of the Pacific Northwest, there can be a foot of snow on the ground & sunshine. The sun can poke out from under a cloud...there it is - another sunny day! Probably 1/2 of that # would be more accurate, especially to those from the warmer climates. Spent time @ Big Lake Campgrounds below the Three Sisters you pictured, near HooDoo ski area. Beautiful, little hiking to nearby meadows, some ATV riding to the top of HooDoo, nearby trails, riding the donut pulled by boat.

Have family in Tri-City area. Traveled that Columbia River Gorge MANY times over the years. You are correct. I am west of the Cascade Mountain Range & can prove it

This ginormous Western Red Cedar is going to get a ginormous HAIRCUT in a few weeks. Maybe a BEFORE & AFTER? AMAZING how the fellas scale those trees like monkeys! Squirrels snacking on the roof! Want more sun so the Rhodies underneath bloom better. Got a kick out of the neighbor guy awhile back. He couldn't understand why they planted those big trees in a neighborhood. Yuk, yuk, yuk. Had to break it to him that it was forest in this area & those trees probably 75 years old.

You're Western red cedar is a beautiful tree BS. Seems like you have some interesting trees in your landscape.

Over at our house, we're in the process of installing a Japanese garden in a previously boring spot of the yard. So far, the area has been cleared of the overgrown plants (some of which had turned into rodent habitation EWWW), and an existing Monterey pine has been determined to one of 2 focal points. He's a big old guy, and has an interesting slant to his trunk.

Image

The other fp is a new guy, a dwarf Norwegian weeping spruce. I saw him at the garden center and fell in love right on the spot. Not very big, but full of character. He seems happy in his new spot.

You have really big gardens . Unfortunately being anywhere in the commuter belt means we have very small gardens . Still we did get a small burn running through it . I never get house envy but a bit more land would be great . Really sandy soil .
Looks fantastic .

Ya, that peanut really likes to spread out Stu. Nice trees on that property! So long as there is green I am happy :) Had one of those small pines in the landscape peanut. Others around here too. Some would provide fencing, piping for them to spread out & grow laterally. Mine didn't make it as so many plants haven't. I tend to plant what I want where I want it, not necessarily where it w/b happy

When DH & I married, he was on a couple of acres. I said no thanks. Too much work. So we lived in the city (suburbs) & I'm still singing the same song

Stunning peanut. That photo captures a little bit of everything, great framing.
I'm going to name this "Quiet Reflections". Needed this today.

more levity

Since Halloween is just around the corner, it's time to start thinking about costumes.
Saw this on reddit today.

Hope it's good for a small chuckle, BS.

Say, whatever happened to Dracula's castle? Is that Stoma flaking on us?

Where you at OSM? Did you turn into a BAT?

I am traveling at sea and on a slow satellite connection. The photos are on my hard drive at home and inaccessible to me right now. I should be back home by Halloween, however.

BTW, thanks for posting the HIPEC info on SkiFletch on the other thread. I couldn't get a satellite internet connection until just now and couldn't post a timely reply on that other thread.

It's a good thing you replied Stoma for TWO reasons:

1) I was afraid you got bitten @ "the castle" & now a VAMPIRE BAT.
2) I made reference to but forgot to post the link to your listing of HIPEC threads on that thread

Thanks for CHECKING IN! Things just go downhill when you're not around :P

I'm sorry, but I cannot upload any photos to the Internet right now because of bandwidth limitations here. I have some dark, somber photos that might eventually qualify, but for now I am limited to text messages.

If you are interested in seeing some nice, bright photos of your area (PNW, Columbia Gorge, etc.) here is a text link to a sample collection:

I have never been to Oregon or Washington, but I might decide to go there some day.

Last weekend was Canadian Thanksgiving. We tried deep fried turkey courtesy of my BIL. (sorry for some reason the pic is sideways, it wasn't on the camera. :( )

UPDATED NOTE : seems to be an issue with my Firefox setup as the pixs show fine with Safari
