Thoughts on new plan

Postby tater » Wed Aug 16, 2017 12:27 am

My wife was diagnosed on 3/3/17. She went through 5Fu chemo and 30 session of pelvic radiation. At that point the plan was surgery than 4-6 months clean up chemo. On July 17 the day of the surgery after a long week the surgery was cancelled due to three 5mm suspicious spots on the right lobe of her liver. They started her on FOLFOX + Avistan. She now has three rounds under her belt. Today our local cancer institute called us with their plan, I went there for a second opinion. They have communicated it to our doctors but I am wondering if it is a bit extreme. Its now three months chemo with a scan to see if the liver is clean. If it is move to pelvic surgery heal than 4 months chemo again than liver resection than heal than 4 more months clean up chemo. That's seems like a lot of FOLFOX sessions. Does this seem doable? Thoughts?

Hi ,
My mum never did post surgery chemo but she was significantly older . Despite not having had chemo since 2010 she has done not too badly . The only reason I am writing , apart from to wish her all the very best, if it becomes to much for her then I hope my mum's story will reassure her that it might not be so bad . If she can handle it well then so be it.
My mum also had her dose reduced to a manageable level and it made it all doable . She still had significant shrinkage on the reduced dose .
All the very best to you both.
