Welcome to the board and I'm sorry for the reason why you area here.

I'm in the same situation that you are in and this is my third week of chemo and radiation so I know how you feel. I found someone that's two weeks ahead of where I am and followed what he went through to get an idea as to what I'd be going through and that has helped. As you know, there's so much to learn, and take care of and it's hard not to worry and have some amount of anxiety and fear but I'd recommend reading around this area and you'll see people going through what you will be going through at various stages.

Please feel free to ask questions and we'll do the best that we can to help.

Welcome. I'm sorry you have to be here. I am stage IIIB as well and have been through chemoradiation and surgery already. I am getting my second oxaliplatin infusion today. The treatment is a tough road, but you will get through it. Just make sure you communicate with your doctors, they can help with any side effects you may end up having.

Sorry you have to be here my man.

My advice is to ask about the PROSPECT trial. Standard treatment for stage iii rectal (which I had) is chemorad - surgery - 12 rounds FOLFOX. PROSPECT is investigating whether patients can have similar results by skipping the radiation and having six rounds of FOLFOX - surgery - six rounds of FOLFOX. I'm told results so far have been good.

I was on it and responded so well to the initial six rounds of FOLFOX that they cancelled the post-surgery six rounds of FOLFOX. Results of course are far from guaranteed but it is something to consider and discuss with your medical team.
40 y/o male (now 46), kids 11 & 14.
Dx 3/16/17, rectal cancer s3,t3,n1,m0
PROSPCT trial (FOLFOX in lieu of chemorad)
FOLFOX 4/5/17 - 6/26/17
LAR 7/31/17, temp ileo
pathological complete response
Adjuvant chemo cancelled (IDEA Study)
Ileo reversed 9/25/17
NED
1 year scans - clear
2 year scans - clear
3 year scans - clear
4 year scans - clear
5 year scans - clear (considered cured)

The PROSPECT trial is recruiting patients in 996 different centers. It may me possible to find a nearby center that does this protocol.
