Clay colored poop

Postby pdp497 » Thu Aug 03, 2017 11:37 am

Yesterday I had a bowel movement that was very light nearly clay color. I have colon cancer with mets to the liver but when this was discovered a few weeks ago my liver was functioning shortly. How concerned shoukdbIbbr about this? I am currently in Houston at MD Anderson for my second opinion so I will be seeing a doctor shortly but Inwanted to know if this is something others with liver involvement have experienced and what the causes might be.

Is your urine darker and more of an orange color than normal? If you have a gall stone blocking a bike duct your stool will become a steel grey color and the bike will go into your kidneys and bladder and color the urine a dark orange color. There would usually be pain associated with a gall stone blocking the bike ducts though.

Have you started taking iron supplements recently? That can turn your poop gray. It scared me half to death the first time it happened to me.

Have the docs check bloods for pancreatic enzyme changes and a pancreatic enzyme digestion test

=>>>> clay colored stool can sometimes be pathognomonic for pancreatic digestive enzyme deficiencies if all other causes are ruled out
( liver / biliary tract / gallbladder ) as these organs are "digestively" and anatomically ... closely related

Best wishes

I just had a bunch on blood work run and a CT yesterday so hopefully if there is something wron they will find it. I also have been getting IV iron infusions for anemia so maybe that is it.

I get the clay light colored stool also. I don't know if it has something to do with the chemo or the liver mets. When I asked Doc if the liver mets was causing a problem he said something to the effect they wouldn't right now.
My stool changes color usually about 4-5 days after chemo and stays that way for about a couple of days then goes back to normal (normal seems to be changing every week :D ).
