10 Yr cancerversary and Diabetes update

Postby Nickmark59 » Thu Jul 27, 2017 6:55 am

What a ride since November being now 10 years out oncologist says im cured but are we really ? let alone all the side effects.
in mean time I got my 1.5 type diabetes under controland stopped my A1c went from 9.3 to 5.5
I am off insulin and no longer diabetic . Lost 40 pounds which I was not overweight to begin with but did not hurt to loose a couple pounds weight off knees.
I did it by giving up sugar and eating foods and having drinks plain and not using diet products which I am not allowed.
( 1.5 is a new category for diabetes they are now using)

I drink plain iced tea and no sugar in coffee or tea have oatmeal with small amount fresh fruit in morning and lunch a sandwich with apple and raw cauliflower or broccoli and a sensible dinner.

snacks are protein based peanuts meat snack etc. a small dessert at dinner or lunch a small piece of cake or cookies so not totally with out sugar . and no late night meals eat on schedule or close to it.

and my diet is working not hard to follow. but it takes dedication to not want that sugar as it takes couple days to get over it then you do not want it.

Very happy for you. Yes you are cured! That's great that you eat healthy and lost weight. I'm trying to get my husband to do the same. He was real good the first two years after diagnosis, but is now falling back into his sugar and eating late at night habits and has gained about 20 pounds. Oh well,

I feel very blessed that he too has been told he's cured. Were 7 years out of surgery and folfox being ned since. So nice to hear success stories here. I hope it gives people hope, I know it did me!

Congratulations on losing the weight. That's a very, very hard thing to do in this day and age. All of the nutritional information is out there on how to do it but actually doing it is very hard.

Ten years without C is even better.

Wish everyone could be doing as well as I am doing but unfortunately we are not all given a good card from the deck.
