Mine was fine and I think I talked non stop throughout. BUT, (no pun intended,) my first and only one so far was a year after an extended rt hemicolectomy so the bowel was much shorter. The tumour was initially found with a CT scan. I'm a male and apparently the bowel is different from a female's. Didn't know that. I don't know what sedative I had, the prep was not that bad and I recovered quickly. Not much help for your post, I'm just really wishing you all the best and try not to worry. :)
Emergency extended rt hemi November 2013.
Complete blockage, small perforation.
Stage 2a.

22 Lymph nodes clear.
No bag.

Yearly appts appts and 6 monthly CEA tests.
Incisional hernia repair, mesh Nov. 2014.
Cellulitus
CEA 1.4 on 28/7/17
27/5/17. Gallbladder removed, open.
Good consultation Feb. 2017
CEA 1.7 on 16/11/17 colonoscopy ok Jan. 2018 :)
Nurse pleased, March 2018. CEA 1.8. One more CEA test and hopefully last appt in November, 2018.

When is your appointment, and when are you going to start on the prep? It's very important to have a good clean-out.

My appt has been delayed due to me requesting to be "put out" (Propifol) I didn't realize that it would be so hard to get Propifol request as they consider a different appt and someitmes it's hard to get the insurance company to okay it or I hear that it is expensive. My GI mentioned that with my medical background that I should be fine with twilight. I have read some scary stories about being put out. I hear the twilight sleep isn't that bad so I may just go that route  :? Propifol reminds me of how Michael Jackson and Joan Rivers went so I think i will pass.

I just received my entire prep for colonscopy which includes this HUGE jug.. Colyte with Flavor pakcs.. 240 ml 8 ounces every 10 in until 4 liters are consumed the night before the procedure. I had no idea there were so many different types of preps.. holy moses.. this is nuts.

They said that dont' need to be put out but still unsure. I have read some scary stories about being put out. I hear the twilight sleep isn't that bad so I may just go that route  :?

They gave me the directions two days before the colonoscopy and I looked at them the afternoon before and I said is this for real? You really take a whole container of this stuff? I'm going to be up half the night (and I was). So the prep is the hard part for sure - everyone that I've talked to said this whether they were out or awake.

Just a note in that I got the bill for the second colonoscopy and it was higher than I expected by a few hundred dollars. I suspect that my insurance doesn't cover Propfil or only covers it partially. The other people where I work usually are awake during the procedure so cost might be a factor in whether or not you are under for it. My personal preference is to be under though I don't have a point of reference for personal comparison. I guess that it's a decision that I'll have to make for future colonoscopies.

Yes, I understand that Propifol is more expensive and I am okay with that. 9 more days and here I go!! This is a little nerve racking and now I know why people opt out of this. :| :?

Some of the cancer stuff I'm dealing with has the wait being worse than the actual thing.

Most say that the prep is the hard part and the actual procedure is a piece of cake by comparison and that's my experience. You are in complete control on the prep. Yes, it's unpleasant but you'll get through it.

It is nerve wracking without a doubt. Once they tell you they're about to start it will feel like a few seconds and then you'll be waking up in another room. At least that's always the case for me. I hate going through colonoscopies but it does give peace of mind when they're over that you've been checked out.
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 12 years NED). Is this real life?

8 more days!! I am more anxious than my scheduled C-section that took place almost 5 years ago :o ! I had 3 epidurals, and a C-Section Spinal. Worst pain in my life was hemorrhoids two years after in 2016! I will never forget the time I was laying in a bath tub praying that the pain will just stop, I can feel the hemmy pulsating.. like it was going to BURST!! I did not have insurance at the time and used over the counter cream. Luckily with time, it went away. Still, the worst pain of my life. I was going to college full time, working two jobs, and stressed out like crazy! Making great income, but super stressed. I hate hemmy's! I had to carry around my butt pillow to class.. my doughnut. People would ask me what it was for... this is why I worry about my colonoscopy, what if that was a tumor, what if .. what if.. what if....? :? :o :(  :| :!:

Just an unofficial moderator's note :

the name of the drug is PROPOFOL
Wiki entry
I have edited the topic post title to reflect this :
because this forum is a highly searched forum and someone searching for the information would likely NOT find it with the misspelling.

Yes, so true. The search function here is not as flexible as Google-search. Here you have to spell it exactly as the original poster spelled it, otherwise you will never find the original post. That is why it is so important for people to check, and double-check their spelling before they submit a post
