Do they keep missing polyps?

When they found my initial cancer, my feeling was that they must have missed a polyp on my last colonoscopy since I had been having them regularly, and the tumor was pretty large.
I just recently had my 3rd colonoscopy since finishing chemo in 2014, and a 3 cm polyp was found near the ileocecal valve, which couldn't be removed, due to size and location. The biopsy results just came back and the polyp is benign. I am going for another colonoscopy to have a specialist try to remove it, but if he can't I will need surgery.
I'm not sure what is going on. I never felt right since the colectomy, and continued to be severely constipated as I had with the tumor. The Doctors gave me the same advice....take Miralax, etc. I now feel that I've had this polyp all along. Is this possible, or do I just grow them fast? Are there any tests that can be run to determine the cause? I'm very happy it's not malignant, but I really don't want to lose more colon. I can't even think about going through another prep, but have no choice.
