Two t's - aha!

Postby Scilla » Wed Jun 07, 2017 3:23 pm

It took me a looong time to understand why so many of you were writing but with two t's when it's supposed to be only one t, butt now all of a sudden I understood - and I just can't stop laughing.

English is a foreign language for me, butt that's not the case for many of you. So I kept thinking "How come so many of them can't spell correctly?". Geez, was I silly!? Butt thanks for the laugh, it really did me good. And I don't have too much to laugh about these days.

I love this forum!

Sorry Scilla ..... BUTT you may have me to blame for that

Probably all started in this topic post from 2008 Inspirational Sayings

I just figured it was a good way to remember we were on a colorectal cancer support forum,
still keep it lighthearted when possible and I've been using it ever since.

In 2008 CRguy wrote:Yes, I know we have had a thread about SONGS which move us, and I am all over that, like a butt rash after chemo.
BUTT !!! , sorry.... but.... what about the power of the spoken/written word ?

I would love to be able to break out into "Don't Worry Be Happy" at a moments notice, but, much as I love music, as soon as I break out..folks would Break Away (apologies to Kelly Clarkson.)

SO.....on one of the martial arts forums I frequent, we have had a thread of just plain good 'ol words that we mere mortals can pass along. Should warn you though, martial artists are replete with ages and ages of ancient wisdoms !

I would like to start off, and would love to hear from others, any words of "reality", love, support, advice or wisdom, which has impacted your journey, and YES, either in a positive manner or not so positive, if it helps getting it out there, and it moved YOU for whatever reason.

1. Whether you think you CAN, or think you can't.....YOU ARE RIGHT. (Henry Ford)

2. If everybody is thinking the same...somebody is NOT thinking. (George Patton)

3. "...................The secret
which got lost neither hides
nor reveals itself, it shows forth

tokens. And we rush
to catch up. ...... " (Charles Olson, American poet)

4. If you love someone....hurry up and show them. ( Just a saying on a card, tacked above my desk at work.)

Cheers
CRguy

BUTT that's not all... In 2010 he came up with some other words:

Scilla,
Thank You for posting this.
English isn't my 1st language either.
I have managed to figur out the use of "Butt",
BUT(T) I truly wish there was a CRguy lexicon  :?
Maybe he speak Canadian English and that is why I have problems?
Just one of my (stupid?) questions now:
What does CRguy's word "WORD" mean?
I have tried to find out, butt I give up. Please help.
These are some examples/CRguy's use of "WORD" - quotes:
1. NOTHING in CRC is nothing or normal = WORD !
2. Get yourself a GOOD ostomy nurse = WORD !
3. Oh DAMN !!!! you be doin' Viking type stuff .. = WORD !
4. DAMN sista' that IS WORD !
5. YOU are here because you ARE strong Get what you NEED to move on and survive THAT is the WORD
6. .. dare I say "WORD" - Ok yup there I said it - WORD

This is probably closest to an actual definition from Wictionary :
word :

(slang, African American Vernacular) Truth, indeed, that is the truth! The shortened form of the statement "My word is my bond."
"Yo, that movie was epic!" / "Word?" ("You speak the truth?") / "Word." ("I speak the truth.")

sorry to be so oblique and obtuse .... BUTT ..... WORD homie
just the way I am !!!!

another one which we used to use more was .... YMMV (your mileage may vary)
taken from the original EPA required disclaimer, when auto manufacturers were making gas mileage claims for their vehicles
and indicating we are not all gonna get the same results from the Journey

You know LPL I think he is great too. That's coming from a Scott who are morally opposed to false praise :D . Butt I think he does a power of work here to make this place work.
Now he is educating me too!!!
