Pump Or Pill???

Postby Nain's-girl » Thu Jun 01, 2017 4:25 pm

Hi, newbie to the forum.
A little bit of a back story to me. Dx 2015 with stage IV bowel cancer. 5x5 rounds of radiotherapy before surgery, removing primary tumour, secondaries in liver ablated and fibroid removed. Ileostomy created. Early 2016 started oxiplatin chemotherapy x6 rounds and August 2016 had liver resection and stoma reversal. Liver & bowel behaving at present but secondaries in lungs have started to play up.

After my latest scan, it's shown one if the tumour's in my lung has grown and is now near the lung wall. My oncologist wants to start treatment to get it back under control, and has given me a choice of either LONSURF by pill or FOLFIRI ( irinotecan with fluorouracil 5fu & folinic acid). X8 cycles 1 every fortnight.

So my question is, has anyone been on either of these regimes? I have the info sheets from MacMillan but don't know which course would be best. can anyone give me some advice?

Thanks in advance x

Bumping this back to the top in hopes someone can answer your question.

I had FOXLOX with the 5FU in a fanny pack. My issues with the pack was not being able to shower for a few days, and changing clothes.

Good luck,

I take the pill form of 5/FU and have no regrets. It fit my personality and lifestyle. No sitting for hours at a time. I do not know about this pill form, but I am sure that people in this forum will give you great advice.

My wife has been dealing with mets to her lungs. She has had both folfiri and is now on Lonsurf. She had terrible tummy trouble. Since it was her 3rd round, the folfiri only held her stable. She just finished her 3rd round of Lonsurf with only mild nausea because sh didn't have enough food in her stomach when she took it. She had a CT on Friday and all 3 mets were reduced in size, on by 2 mm and the others by half.
