First Capox round

Postby mtipte » Tue May 23, 2017 8:55 pm

Hey all,

just an update: my mum finished her first round of Capox without ANY side effects. I don't know if it is good or not, but her CEA has increased slightly and the onc said it's nothing to worry about (2.68 compared to 1.7 before). I read that it's a good sign as it might mean cancer cells are dying and it shows in that exam??? She has also gained like 1,5 kgs.The doc said some patients react to chemo in different ways, and it's different in each cycle(round) too.

Has anyone experienced the same or heard about this? Hope her CAE will decrease in the near future.

Thanks.

Hi Mario,

Just tripped on this. Sorry no one has responded sooner. Okay, I was on FOLFOX. When I left the hospital following my surgery to remove my tumor, my CEA was 3.5. Half way through chemo, I had another CEA and it went up to 7.5. Scared me, surgeon said it was okay. I too have been told when cancer cells are dying off, they emit a protein that CEA is picking up. Anyway about 6 months after I finished chemo, CEA was back down again.

I was one of those that also gained weight while on chemo. My Onc took it as a good sign.

Hope your Mom is doing well,
