Alarming symptoms (constipation, long term pencil stool)

Postby vasco3194 » Tue May 23, 2017 7:39 pm

Hello all. Just looking for some advice. I'm 23 years old and 2 months ago out of nowhere I experienced a sudden change of bowel habits. Only able to pass small amounts of stool, pencil thin, and sometimes a little bit of diahrea. Laxitives of all types do not help this issue. I've had a small amount of blood at times in my toilet paper as well. as a result I went to a gastro who did a colonoscopy and CT but found nothing! now it's a month later, my symptoms are still here. The constipation is getting worse, when I go it's about as much a household cat would. Prior to this I was very regular went 2 times a day both well formed. Anyone else experience this?

Try fiber supplements. Worked like a champ for me.

Do you eat products with a lot of sugar? I cut sweets and sweet tea from my diet and that fixed my constipation issue. Laxatives didn't work that well for me. I tested it too and if I drink sweet tea, I have issues again. Just though I'd suggest thAt.

OP, if you haven't already, get a copy of the colonoscopy report, the radiologist's report from the CAT scant, and a CD of the cat scan images. Keep these in a folder at home; it is a very good idea to have a personal copy of all your medical records/history, especially if you end up moving cities/countries/continents.

You may have to go through 'medical records' to get these. I have had success going to the facility that did the CAT scan, and they have burned a CD and printed the radiologist's report on the spot.

It seems unusual that the gastro didn't give you any advice on how to deal with your new situation.

But our bodies sometimes change... for example my wife recently got pain in her upper back, bloating, and occasional abdominal pain. After a casual conversation with physician friend, we found out that she had suddenly become lactose-inolerant (at the age of 51).

Bring your reports to your primary doctor and see if they can work with you to find out why your bowel behavior has changed. Like others have mentioned, you might just need a dietary change.
