Fingerprint lost....how bizarre!!

I have CCD by been cursing my phone because for a month or so it gas refused to recognise me by my fingerprint!
Whilst reading something else I stumbled on fingerprint loss as a possible side effect of some chemo drugs! I can see that my fingertips are shiny but not swollen ...it feels bizarre!
Has anyone else lost their fingerprint through chemo? I've had de by 6 Folfox treatments so far, the last 2 without the oxaliplatin. I've also noticed that, whilst the neuropathy went immediately the oxi was stopped, I am getting tingling again but nothing like before, just seems weird!
This chemo journey is soooo strange but, hey, I'm half way through now and looking forward to the end, even though I have another 6 treatments to go!
Love and hugs to everyone travelling this same weird journey!
Xxxx

Hi Judi

Yes my husband has lost his fingerprints . He also noticed it when he tried to use his fingerprint to access his phone
He has had 8 sessions of Folfox so far, 2 without the oxaliplatin and I think he noticed the fingerprint issue after about 5 sessions, his finger tips are shiny and he has a lot of peeling skin, which I think is more caused by the 5-fu as that doesn't seem to have got any better since dropping the ox.
It is a strange journey indeed and every treatment seems to effect him differently.

Yes I have heard of this before. Some people have lost all of there fingerprints. While I still have mine, I would not be surprised not as sharp as they once were.

Yes! We took the kids to Disney in November and their little entry machines could not detect his fingerprint.

I lost my fingerprints, and I remember at that time (~5 years ago) on the Board, LOTS of people had experienced the same thing on chemo. It took about 6-8 months after chemo for mine to come back.

Something I learned recently is that touch ID on an iPhone will work with other things besides fingerprints. A friend of mine is paranoid and uses his knuckles to unlock his phone so that his prints aren't stored. Maybe try that!

Hi Judi,
I just asked hubby and the same thing happened to him. He said he managed to change it/the iPhone, 'reprogram' (or whatever it's called in English :? ).

I'm on folfiri and I believe mine are getting less sharp. We had heard about this disappearing thing so we were sure to get mike inked on cardstock a while ago, as my wife wanted my ring finger fingerprint as a tattoo. That tattoo is done and looks pretty cool. I think it to be a very romantic gesture and legacy when Im gone.

I also lost my fingerprints, but on Xeloda. Mine was discovered at an international border crossing station that required fingerprints, so a little more dramatic than not being able to use your iPhone! Showed my chemo port and explained I was in treatment and made it through. But I got a letter from my onc when I got home to show officials on the next trip.

CRguy, I am ready to join your team!!! Safe crackers have to wear cotton gloves so they don't leave prints -- BUT NOT US, BABY! We are naturally unidentifiable.

I lost my fingerprints and it on FOLFOX and it took years for them to come back enough that they could all be 'read'. I volunteered with Civil Air Patrol and had to have fingerprinting done at our local prison. The FBI refused them twice and a prison guard on another forum told me to soak my hands in very warm water and use hand lotion before the next try. That worked. I got 89% reading which was acceptable WITH a letter from my oncologist listing the chemo, drug by drug in FOLFOX.

When I signed up for TSA Precheck they were having trouble reading mine and he had me put Purell on my hands. I wouldn't have thought moist hands would be better. Go figure.
