NED 4.5 year after lung recurrence

Postby Mys » Mon May 15, 2017 5:39 am

4.5 years ago I had surgery to remove two pulmonary nodules, one of them was cancerous. I just got the results of my twice-yearly scan - I am still NED (CT and CEA normal).

My story is in my signature - I was diagnosed with stage 3C colon cancer almost seven years ago. My doctor wants me to do one more CT scan in six months, then he will consider me cured. I am posting this as I would look for the long term outcomes of people of a similar diagnosis when I was a newbie myself. Best wishes to you all.
CC diagnosed June 2010 (at 34), stage 3C. 10/26 lymph nodes. Simultaneous DCIS breast cancer. Lung met first seen on scan March 2012 (6mm), open lung surgery October 2012 (8mm). Biopsy confirmed metastasis. No chemo after lung surgery. NED.

Congrats! Such wonderful results! I just wonder, when you had your mediastinal nodes, did your CEA rise? I have two lung mets, but I now have mediastinal nodes with a slightly elevated CEA. I wonder if this excludes sarcoidosis.

Thank you!

Lydia666: I had a unilateral mastectomy with delayed reconstruction (no chemo for the breast cancer as is usual for DCIS)

tigerpaw: No, my CEA didn't rise when I had mediastinal lymph node enlargement (and also pelvic lymph node enlargement). But my CEA was never that high to begin with, only 2.0 (or maybe 2.2, i forget) at diagnosis. My CEA has been below 1.0 for a long time now. My doctors never mentioned CEA in relation to sarcoidosis, they wanted a biopsy to make the diagnosis.

My best wishes and warmest thoughts to you all.
