CYRAMZA/Ramucirumab with FOLFIRI vs. Avastin + 5FU?

Postby BUD2016 » Mon May 01, 2017 11:35 am

Hi All,

Cyramza has been approved in 2015 for mCRC patients failing the first line of treatment (FOLFOX + Avastin). In combination with FOLFIRI. In people KRAS mutant.

We are not taking this route yet, just preparing for Plan B in case something comes up in the scans tomorrow. One must always be prepared and our onc mentioned this possibility in case things do not go as planned.

What I understand is that it is not a breakthrough drug, but some slight enhancement of Avastin. Like a new updated version of Avastin from a different supplier?

I have seen many people still staying on Avastin and side effects are worse on Cyramza than Avastin.

Any views?

Thank you very much for you feedback and sharing your experience.

Ramucirumab is more like a complementary agent to Avastin/Bevacizumab. They both work on the Vascular endothelial growth factor signaling pathway. One works on VEGF-A, the other on VEGFr2 both of which are involved in Angiogenesis.

The following Wiki links may help.

Ramucirumab: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramucirumab

Bevacizumab: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bevacizumab

VEGF-A: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vascular_ ... h_factor_A

VEGFr2: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinase_in ... n_receptor

Overall VEGF family of receptors: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VEGF_receptor

Angiogenesis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angiogenesis

A bit technical I know but best to be armed with complete information in my opinion.
