SBRT (cyber knife) - side effects ?

Hi all,

I've had two of my three scheduled sessions on the CK, the second this afternoon. It's targeting the persistent met in my liver. I'm still on the immunotherapy trial that I've posted about a couple of times (Roche: bispecific antibody plus pd-l1).

In the last day or so I have had some serious tenderness and bloating in my upper abdomen, under the ribs, both sides. Wondering if anyone has similar (or indeed any) side effect experiences on SBRT or regular therapy.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

I didn't have CK but when my liver was microwaved I had the same thing. I felt like my abdomen was filled with extra fluid. It even looked extended. It was very uncomfortable and even hurt when lightly brushed or touched. It took longer to feel pain free than anyone told me. I was worried my liver was bleeding, but an ultrasound showed it wasn't.

I imagine since both techniques zap the tumors and get it very hot, the after effects could be similar.

Hang in there.

Elizabeth thanks so much for replying.

I had my third & last cyber knife RT session yesterday. After about 6 hours the same thing happened: bloating, discomfort, cramping. Today (36 hrs later) it's way better.

In case anyone else undergoes the same combination of immuno + radio, my docs don't seem concerned. They reckon it might be evidence of an abscopal effect taking place (good) or the RT causing irritation to my bowel, being adjacent to the target lesion, leading to colitis, cramp etc (neutral).

Scans in 8 weeks to determine effectiveness, if any. I'll update then.
