Pump tubing clamped

Postby debb » Mon Apr 10, 2017 10:43 pm

Today was the day one of this cycle. All went well and I drove myself home (hubby traveling) As I was getting ready for bed, I passed in front of the mirror in my sports bra and noticed there was pink in my pump tubing. On closer inspection, I noticed that one of 3 clamps was in the closed position. So I called after-hour care and got not my doc. He had no idea about the workings of my chemo pump. I'm using the new ball pump. It's fantastic! No batteries, no humming sounds, smaller & lighter!! So he was going to call a nurse to help me. The nurse did call me and the clamp was supposed to be open, so I opened it. The pink (blood) has cleared and I'm good. Only bad part is that my disconnect time on Wed had to be pushed back a few hours. If I waited until morning to question, I'd be adding hours to the time I'm hooked up at the end. And we planned a quick trip to HHI for Easter, leaving Thurs morn, and I was afraid of delay.

But they're just going to push back disconnect time on Wednesday. Yay! Then i got nervous that they'd have to do a big push at the end because the ball wouldn't be empty. But my nurse said they don't push with this ball pump. Yay!

But it's so funny...the doc on call knew nothing of this pump!!! What it was or how it worked! The nurses are the real doctors! I love my nurses!!!

I love my chemo nurses, too!

They always told me that if I had a problem with my pump, call them. They said if I went to the ER or anyplace else, they probably would not know how to help.

Glad things worked out for you! Good luck with treatment.

So glad you noticed! I had something similar on my very last cycle. The tubing was taped at a bad angle and so it was going very slowly. I wasn't sure until almost 24 hours in. I ended up having to wear it an extra 20 hours. Kind of a bummer way to finish out my treatment but done is done! Glad you are enjoying your new infusor. I used the baxter baby bottle style but it is silent as well.

I had that happen with me, but it was the mechanical pump. It was still running like normal and didn't indicate there was a problem at all.

Went in on disconnect day to find out it had been clamped off the whole time, it was a Thursday so at first my onc was just going to have me wear it until Friday so I at least had half a dose.

Then he changed his mind and had me wear it until Saturday then go to a different office the gave infusions on the weekends to have it removed.

I got to wear that sucker for two extra days, it stunk big time!

Glad you noticed the issue and only had to push back disconnect time a few hours!
