Local recurrence

For those with local rectal recurrence, how did you find out and what was your outcome? Thank you.

I didn't have a local recurrence, but I've had all kinds of weird pains in the pelvic area. My Oncologist has told me not to worrry unless I have pain that keeps me up at night. If I didn't take his advice, I would probably think I had a recurrence every week. I also have pain off and on on my right side that started in January. My scans are due, so we are just doing them to check it. He did not seem worried about it at all. He told me that if I had a recurrence that was causing pain, I would be losing weight and have a lot more symptoms.

It's so hard not to worry when you have kids. I get MRIs of the pelvis and abdomen instead of CTs because we can't get a PET approved. See if you can get a pelvic MRI to check symptoms if your Onc is reluctant to scan you.

Thank you for your answer. I am currently on vacation on a sunny island and managed to reach both my surgeon and onc. They seem pretty sure it isn't recurrence since i had aclean scope 4 months ago. My onc thinks that the rectum is irritated from the sun given that i was irradiated in the pelvic area. I have a ct scan coming up and if symptoms don't stop, a scope. To be followed...
