Back on the panic train!-UPDATE

Postby Lydia666 » Wed Apr 05, 2017 5:12 pm

I saw something red in my stool today and possibly a little mucus on the paper. Not sure if ate something red, if so nothing significant- possibly a little red pepper. My last coloscopie was in December, exactly 4 months ago. Can a recurrence show up like that? Thank you for any input.
*Update *
Had the scope today- april 26, 2017- all clean! It was a hemoroid! Ugh!

It's most likely a little bit of red pepper. I would keep an eye on it.*hugs* I'm the same way when it comes to my stool. Ever since my diagnosis I'm very vigilant.

Hi Lydia666,
Yes maybe you have eaten something that caused that?
Or - could it be a side effect? .... from Xeloda (http://chemocare.com/chemotherapy/drug-info/Xeloda.aspx )
But you are not taking that are you?

UGH, it's so hard *not* to panic when you see red in your stool, isn't it? I can definitely understand. My oncologist told me to look for anything "persistent," as I did have one hard stool that caused a very small amount of bleeding, but it never happened again after that one time, which was a huge relief.

The mucus can be caused by a number of things, but most often from diet is what I've read. Try not to let it freak you out.

Hugs and Prayers,
Tracy

I should temper that advice by saying you should definitely stay vigilant, just keep breathing while you do it.

Thank you all. I left a message for my oncologist today, she might calm me down and also she might order some tests before i get to see her on the 18th. I am away on vacation right now.
I have not seen blood on poop since, but mucus on paper and maybe tiny specs of blood on paper. I am hoping it's from my recent intake of antibiotics, pain killers, constipation etc ..after my double mastectomy.

I shall post updates with whatever is next.

Lydia, funny story, when my daughter was about a year out from diagnosis she had red in her stool and went to the ER. Tests revealed it was not blood but food dye. Them she remembered she had eaten red velvet cake.

So hopefully yours is the same kind of silly thing!

I feel you. My onc said changes that persist are worrisome...a change that lasts 2 weeks or more, also.

Hope it's nothing.

My surgeon says it's practically impossible to have a recurrence after 4 months but for my peace of mind he is willing to do a short scope , just to verify my rectum.

I have the scope April 26 and a scan on May 4th. So we'll have an answer soon.
