Question about ground glass opicity and update on CT

Postby teri3 » Wed Apr 05, 2017 8:54 am

Hi gang! I have a question on ground glass opacity and an update on my CT scan yesterday. First the good news! Nothing new showed up but there was slight growth in the right met that was a 6mm and a lot of growth in the left met it went from barely visible to 12mm. Up to this point the largest was a 7mm. I know that doesn't sound like good news but it is to me! I'm scheduled Monday to have Lefty the pesky met removed via VATS. Then the beginning of May out goes Righty. This is what I've been wanting, so many people on here have had good results with VATS, I'm hoping for the same thing. Also luckily both are on the outside of the lungs making minimal loss of lung tissue.
But now to my question. I still have a small ground glass opacity in my right lung. It has been there for a while and has no change. The surgeon is not very concerned about it, he says we will monitor it. Anyone else have experience with these? Do they eventually go to the dark side or is it just another piece of junk in my lung? I'm not to concerned but I liked to hear others experiences with these.
Thanks
Teri

Many scans in before the radiologist used the term "ground glass nodule" to describe the approximately 6 mm nodule in DH lung. Neither the oncologist nor the surgeon ever expressed concern about it, other than "we will keep an eye on it" and DH was permitted to have his port removed in early Feb.

Great news about VATS!

To answer your question, I had a 3mm ill-defined ground glass nodule show up on one scan and disappear the next.

It's a term to describe something that looks a certain way on a scan..
I had one on one scan after I had had a persistent cough. Then it was gone on next scan. Hoping it will still be gone on Tuesday ( next scan)
