Scan tomorrow

Postby teri3 » Mon Apr 03, 2017 9:21 am

Hi everybody! Tomorrow is my CT scan. . My scan after chemo showed that the left met had shrunk so it was barely visible and the right had shrunk some and was cavitating. I choose to go to a bigger cancer center for options. My initial meeting was with a radiation oncologist who brought my case before the tumor board and it was decided that I should wait, that the mets were to small to anything right now and VATS is my best bet when they get bigger. So tomorrow I get the scan and then immediately afterwards have a meeting with my thoracic surgeon who will read the scans then and there and decide if it's a go for VATS.
So I'm in the weird spot of wanting growth but not :? I want these things out!! But also my daughter is getting married August and the week after I'm leaving for a bucket list trip to Yellowstone, so I don't. And then there is the ever present fear of it spreading :(
Those of you out there who have had VATS how long is the recovery time? If they want to remove one of the mets now will I be ok for my daughters wedding? How about hiking around in Yellowstone?
Thanks for any help and I'd appreciate some prayers and good vibes.
Thank you,
Teri

Thank you CRguy! That makes me feel better. The surgery sounds imposing even though I've been told its not. I just don't want anything to get in the way of my August plans

Hi,
This is purely an onlookers view but my mum has had a combined liver and bowel resection, the following year 73% of her liver respected. Last year she had a lung resection when she was 73. She is made of strong stuff but it was by far the easiest to date. She was home two days later and was in good shape and back to her normal activities within two weeks. I was pleasantly surprised and relieved.
I wish you all the best.

Oct 2018. Another clear scan .

I don't have any experience with VATS to share, but just wanted to wish you luck with your scan. And say that I hope you'll share your Yellowstone experience with us as I hope to spend some time there, too, possibly next summer (2018).
