My reversal!

Postby Joannerogers » Wed Mar 29, 2017 4:50 pm

It's been a long road but after a year, I finally got my reversal. I went in monday...surgery went good...had my bm on tuesday night so I was able to go home today (Wednesday). So far I have not had any accidents! I can tell when I might have to go and I can concentrate on holding it! I'm so pleased! I hope it will continue to be this way. I hope this helps someone else who's getting ready for their reversal or for someone trying to decide whether to get a reversal or not. Through God....all things are possible. I had people praying for me all over the world! I truly believe these prayers were answered.

Thanks Joanne!! Mine is scheduled for April 26. I am going in Friday for a barium enema study to make sure all is good. A little nervous about that because I am not sure what to expect. I have read so many stories of people who have had major issues and it does make me nervous. My surgeon thinks my recovery should go smoothly because I have not had radiation and have only had 10" removed. My reconnection was about 5.5cm from anal verge. Reading your post definitely makes me feel better. Congrats on getting through your journey!

Marylandm,
I'm a week out from reversal and am very pleased with my results. I do have clustering but I have control and that was my worry.

They say it's a easy surgery but I've had more pain with this one than any of the other ones. I think because I won't take the opioid pain killer because of constipation. The hospital gave me a binder to wear and that helps with the pain and I take aleve
or Tylenol . Those two combined seem to work fairly well.

I'm so glad I decided to do this! I was like you and many others...worried about control..but so far I've had no trouble other than frequency and I've not changed my diet at all!

Good luck to you! I wish you all the best! I'll be watching for updates from you after your surgery!

Thank you for the information. I'm new to this website and am looking for info on whether or not to have the takedown or keep the ileostomy. Glad to hear it's going well early. Much luck to you.
