Clincial Trial searching: what medical info do you need?

Postby NeVadasMitis » Mon Mar 27, 2017 12:10 pm

Hi there,

I have done enough reading around the forum to know that MSS vs MSI is a big consideration these days when looking at trials.
Can anyone tell me what other info one should know about one's cancer, in order to be better equipped when researching? (Other than the obvious, more general stuff like whether you've had a liver resection, or adjuvant chemo, etc...).
Are BRAF and KRAS status important to know? Are there other factors?
My dad is seeing his surgeon and his oncologist tomorrow for his post liver resection appointment, so I'm making a grocery list for him to bring :)

Thank you!
DD dx Dec.2012, age 57, Stage I CRC
2013/01 complicated resection
2016 summer/fall CEA slowing rising...(2.1, 2.8, 3.1)
2016/12 scan shows "something" on RL of liver; fna biopsy ordered
2017/01 confirmed 1 met to liver (1.5x2 cm); Stage IVa; cea 3.1
2017/02 5mm node on lung
2017/03 liver resection
2017/05 wedge resection of lung node
2017/09 CEA rising....5.6, 8.9...

You may need to know ECOG status. It's on a scale of 0 to 4. Zero being the healthiest and 4 the worst condition.
If you are able to maintain all your daily life activities most days you will likely be a zero.
You may also need to know liver function numbers.
Each trial on clinicaltrials.gov will have an eligibility section that will tell you the requirements for inclusion.

Personally I'm finding it hard to meet inclusion. There seems to always be something I don't meet.

Good luck with your search. :D
