LEON, NO

I was concerned that Ceci didn't mention any follow up in the original post and especially since rectal tends to recur farther out than colon, I was trying to find a way to say I disagree with their oncologist.

Just yesterday I was waiting for the office to open so I could get my blood work done prior to my doctor visit in April. A man sat down in the hall near me and began to tell me that MY oncologist pronounced him cured at 5 years and discharged him. That was 2 years ago and he's now dying. Two huge liver tumors that are wrapped around the hepatic veins and numerous lung mets in both lungs.

Just because a CEA stays low does not mean it isn't a good indicator. Actually, someone who presents with a CEA say at 10 instead of 200 is thought to have a less aggressive form of CRC. With me, my liver met caused a rise to 6.4 which triggered a CT scan and a quick liver resection 5 years ago in 2 weeks. I do NOT want to be kicked to the curb!
Stage III cc surgery 1/7/09. 12 tx FOLFOX
Stage IV PET = 1.5cm liver met. HR 4/11/12

14 years since dx and 11 years post liver resection.
Pronounced CURED and discharged by onc

Thank you, all.

And yes, yearly blood work and physical is in order. Jim already has his next appointment on the calendar and his onc suggested not having yearly ct scans any more. His oncologist actually said he could still see him for his annual if he wanted, but could also go with a gp.

I can't even begin to count the amount of scans my mum has had. Her oncologist talked about the risk of exposure. She went with a schedule she was comfortable with . Sometimes that's all you can do.
I wish you many happy years ahead.
