I finished my 30th radiation yesterday and my 6th Carbotaxol the previous week.
All said it wasn't too bad. Not as bad as the Gemcitibine in the first treatment. Now I start the follow ups. The medical oncologist starts Monday next week and the radiation oncologist in mid-December ( after 3 months). I'm not so naieve as to think that this is all I have to do. NSCLC is notoriously hard to shake off.
sandy, my SIL finishes her breast cancer chemo today. She's had a much harder run of it. First very low neutrophils and then persistent UTIs.
All the best to everyone. Keep on keeping on.
Wayne

G'day Wayne,
Sounds like they are treating you fairly aggressively, I hope it is doing its job. I had a scope in April. Four polyps from 4 mm to 11mm developed in the last three years. I had to have some internal staples for the largest. No cancer but some mild displaysia in the larger ones. My type 2 diabetes has decided to ramp up . My HbA1c has been steady at around 48 for years but the last test it jumped to 73. Nothing in my lifestyle has changed I suspect it may be the occasional hit of prednisone I have been prescribed to curb auto-immune hepatitis. I'm still on cyclosporine twice a day for auto-immune nephrotic syndrome of the kidneys. I am still working but it is betting harder. All the best Ron.

Well I'm still plodding along. My haemoglobin is back to normal so I'm not as tired as I had been.
Back in August I treated myself to a new car. A BMW M240i. An insane little beast. Unfortunately on Oct 2nd I wrote it off and nearly did the same to myself. Ten days flat on my back with an L4 fracture in the Gold Coast hospital. Discharged with scripts for Targin and Endone ( both Oxycodone). That stuff is dangerous. My back still aches but week on week its improving. By December I had improved enough for a brief Hawaiin vacation.
The SIL,Sandy, is bouncing back. Her and hubby have bought a florist shop down at Southport so she has confidence in the future.
A negative is that in December, the wife of my business partner has been found to have spots on her lungs ( she also had breast cancer in 2013 ). She's started chemo but her husband doesn't know what sort. He can be pretty useless in that respect.
I'm relieved that 2017 is over. For me it was pretty terrible.
Best wishes to all, especially Ron for hitting that really big milestone.

G'day Wayne,
Sorry to hear that you had an accident but glad to see that you survived it. I agree on targin I was on 80 mg for over two years, Dreadful stuff and the naloxone did not stop opiate induced constipation with me. Every time I took a dose I took two coloxyl and two dulcolax. I decided To get off it. It took 32 weeks of slow reduction. Never again. Now I'm on warfarin. I've got some mild problems with auto immune hep. Warfarin acts on the vit k receptors in the liver that produces the enzyme for blood clotting. I am having trouble getting my clotting factor down to 2.5 , it has been up to 5.2. Any higher and I probably would have needed vit k injections. I was dxed in er after I collapsed at home just before new year. I thought it was vertigo but they think it may have been a slight heart attack . I have been dxed with atrial fib and er referred me to the cardiac clinic at Kawana university hospital. They said it would take three months but I was surprised to get an appointment for next Tuesday. I'm seeing the head cardiac neurologist. He mainly does pacemakers, defibs and ablations. I sometimes wonder how many things have to go wrong before you stop working. They cannot say that the pair of us are not survivors. May we both continue to survive as long as we can. Hope 2018 starts to improve, Ron.

Hello Ron and Barbara

As of the 12th March, after my 2nd CT scan post treatment, I am now in remission from NSC Lung Cancer.
I have to remind myself that I am now free from 2 separate cancers. Colon left me with type 2 diabetes and lung ( or radiation ) has sapped my endurance.
These I regard as small prices to pay. In July I turn 68 but I'm still working , albeit 4 days a week.
In June I will be 11 years NED -Colon.
In the nearly 10 years I have been here, we have lost so many good people, but there are also so many who are carrying on.
All the best to everyone
wayne

Hey Wayne,
I check in on the CC every now and again, so I was very pleased to see your update today,
Congratulations on being in remission, you’re one tough dude :D I’m very happy for you, although I know you’ve been through some really bad times. Carry on doing what your doing, enjoy life as much as possible, and long may it’s continue.
Hi to Ron also :D and to anyone else from our “time “ on here, it’s so sad that so many of our old mates are no longer with us.
Much love to all Barbara x
