Thanks all for the well wishes.
Today is day 1 of my first cycle of GemCarb.
I had a meeting with my new Oncologist on Monday and he certainly is thorough. Basicly he explained why he has chosen this path, taking into account the amount of chemo that I have already had, and the state of my kidneys.
I've had a look around for a NSCLC forum without much success. The forums exist but the activity level is low.

Have you looked at Inspire?
Here is a link
https://www.inspire.com/groups/american ... =553914672I belive this section for Lungcancer includes a very active group of people. At least that was my experience 1-2 years ago when I read there a lot due to a friend having been diagnosed with NSCLC.
Kind Regards /L

Lots of activity since my last post.
I've found a lung cancer home that I'm comfortable with.
I've now completed 2 cycles of GemCarb with a third commencing on Wednesday. No side affects at all.
I had a Ct scan on the 18th for review by the Lung Panel. last Tuesday.
I had a follow up with my onc today and the result was beyond my expectations. Significant tumour shrinkage , enough to make me a radiation candidate. Those magic words "curative intent",were mentioned.
Unfortunately Sandy hasn't had such an easy run. Two cycles of chemo and two hospital admissions. If only she would learn to sit still and give her body a chance. In the meantime keep on with the Neulasta.
Hope to all
Wayne

Yesterday was my 10th Colon Cancer anniversary.
Still free of that cancer and still doing battle with NSCLung Cancer.
During the 3rd round of GemCarb I found out what low red blood cells are like. No breath and very tired.
I've now done week 1 of my initial 4th cycle of chemo which has now been extended to 5 +. Today I finally get my new Portacath. Not before time. I'm out of veins from the canula.
All the best
Wayne.

Wayne, congratulations on your 10 mark!
Just a thought... has you been tested for receiving immunotherapy instead of chemotherapy for NSCLC?
https://www.medianet.com.au/releases/127433/SYDNEY, Australia, 8 March 2017 – Australians with a deadly form of lung cancer can now bypass chemotherapy to receive medicine that activates the body’s immune system to fight cancer cells.
MSD today announced that its cancer fighting immunotherapy KEYTRUDA® (pembrolizumab) has been approved for use prior to, as well as following, chemotherapy to treat advanced non-small cell lung cancer in patients with a protein known as programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1)*. For this immunotherapy, each patient needs to be tested to determine their suitability for the treatment.*
Until now, this treatment had only been available for patients with advanced melanoma.
“The great news is that KEYTRUDA can now be prescribed to previously untreated lung cancer patients, as well those whose cancer has spread after chemotherapy,” said Associate Professor Tom John, from The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre.
“This marks the first time that Australians with lung cancer can receive an immunotherapy without having first failed chemotherapy,” he said.
The approval of KEYTRUDA for use in previously untreated lung cancer patients comes five months after the publication of a landmark study that compared the immuno-oncology therapy to traditional chemotherapy, involving Australian doctors – including Associate Professor John – and patients.

There will be no 5th round of GemCarb. It isn't necessary.
I will be going straight into Radiation + Carboplatin + Taxol.
After the 4th round I had a PET scan. The primary is now smaller than 1 cm and the 2 lymph nodes are cancer free. An "excellent response".
I had 4 units of blood last week and it is really kicking in.
I think I will be around for a while yet.
