Sage advice, Michael, however I would like to add that once an email has been hacked, it's out there, can't unhack it. However changing the password to one's email account periodically is helpful to avoid future hacks. I know my friends & the looks of their emails so can detect not to open strange looking ones.
I have deleted "contact through email" from my profile in light of recent events, even though it is not apparently revealed, just to be safe.
Certainly I w/n post or contact anyone's email that is posted on a public forum, which I have seen here on CT a time or two.
That is wide open for hacks both ways & asking for a whole lot of trouble
