Cure for chronic fecal impaction

Postby Steph20021 » Tue Mar 14, 2017 9:18 pm

I'm looking for some home remedies. I have no colon and a permanent ileostomy if that's an issue. This is not a new problem for me but bothering me more lately as I'm getting a lot of urgency to go feelings etc. No flex sig is planned so I won't have my colonoscopy dr manually break it up this time lol poor guy...they should have students for that,

Perhaps Metamucil with lots of water might help. It improved stool consistency for me though I've got different anatomy. Check with your GI specialist and ask if it might help. The doc might have other recommendations too. Miralax is another possibility that works differently by increasing the water content in the gut.

If you have an ileostomy and blockages, another thing to avoid is possible contamination of food with glyphosate. Try organic grains for a few weeks and see if it improves things. This chemical is in a lot of conventionally grown grains now and it slows gut motility and has been documented to cause ileus. Glyphosate is commonly sprayed on wheat, barley, oats, flax, beets, corn, and soy. If you eat a lot of any of these, switch to organic for a while. Non-GMO is not sufficient, as even non-GMO crops can be sprayed now just before harvest to accelerate ripening.

What about prunes. I've seen someone on here eat a dried one once a day or something. Maybe a prune & fiber would do it? Or every other day. Just taking a guess tho.

Thank you both for your ideas, appreciate it. I'm going to try them and look into them but I'll also call my dr. and mention I'd like sone relief. I'd do an enema but with my limited anatomy and pouch I don't know if it's wise. I'll let you know what happens.

Magnesium citrate! My dad uses it along with restoralax and lots of prune juice. I am also chronically constipated as is my 2 year old. Magnesium citrate works for both of us. I take a full adult dose (depends on which brand you buy) every day. When I find it's not enough I will double the dose. Unfortunately I don't know much about ilesotomies, so I'm not sure about the details, but it might be worth researching. I hope you get some relief soon.

Going to my Gi surgeon Friday for fecal disimpaction. I hope it helps get rid of this bloated feeling and the leakage I'm having. Of course he is limited by what he can reach with his finger.
I have a loop ileostomy and he suggested going forward that I try enemas from the top down. Not too keen on having a catheter inserted into my stoma though, plus not sure my oncologist will like the risk of perforation.
