Juicing and vegetarian diet

Postby LMighty » Mon Mar 13, 2017 12:30 pm

Hi,

I wonder if anyone here tried juicing and vegetarian diet after diagnosed. I have read posts here and books about it and it seems to be quite beneficial. Does it work for you all? As my mom is preparing for the upcoming chemo we would like to prepare her body.

Hi. It's so great that you are supporting your mom through this journey. I'm also trying to be there for my dad. I think juicing and a vegetarian diet could be beneficial only if your mom can tolerate it. During chemo eating is tough, so she should really eat whatever appeals to her. My mom juices for my dad, but only once he is ready for it. My dad sees a naturopath who does recommend juicing and staying away from red meat, but only when it's possible. It's more to help him feel good so that he can get through his chemo treatments and less about juicing stopping the cancer from progressing. However, having said that, why not throw everything at it that your mom is willing to? As long as her oncologist is ok with it, I don't think there is any harm.

HI LMighty

I did both, I juiced all through my chemo treatments and faired pretty well. I never got sick during the process, and felt like the raw nutrients from juicing helped with that. I would definitely recommend starting slowly if her body is not used to large outs of vegetables. Hope that helps

Hi Ho Lmightly,

You have the right idea. I don't propose that juicing will cure anything. I had 3 months between dx, my 1st (colon) surgery and my 2nd (lung) surgery so I changed my diet a bit at that point. I upped my vegetable intake and tried to ensure I was getting more fibre and better nutrients. Then when I went on to chemo I really struggled with appetite. I lost a fair bit of weight as I just struggled to eat and as a result I ended up doing a bit of juicing as I considered that with surgery and chemo having the essential nutrients and vitamins was extremely important so that you could give your body the best chance to achieve its own result.
I ate a lot of soft veggie stews, and for breakfast I did a lot of berry & banana smoothies as I found that they filled me up and gave me a lot of energy.

I hope your Mum will let you help her with her diet.

Hi everyone,

Thanks a lot for your replies and support. Looks like juicing does help :)

I also don't suppose juicing or any specific diet protocol could really cure cancer, but as long as it's healthy, it's worth trying. We are definitely going to adopt a low fibre diet in order to cope with the diarrhoea from irinotecan, which my mom will go thru in a few weeks.
