I afraid

Postby Lindapolyps » Thu Mar 09, 2017 12:44 am

Hi I just had my colonoscopy and they found over 35 3mm polyps. I am now worried what I hate is the wait for biopsy results. Anyone else has this happen to them

I did not find lots of polyps, but I was very afraid waiting for the biopsy. That was the worst part. Just not knowing. I have heard of others having lots of polyps, and they are usually not cancerous. But you will need to be closely monitored so they can be removed before they turn cancerous if you develop more. Colon cancer has to go into tissue to spread, so even a cancerous polyp would probably only be stage O. You are very fortunate they caught your polyps before they turned into tumors.

I haven't had the experience of multiple polyps so can't comment on that, but I get the worry and waiting for results. Try to keep yourself occupied....I know it's hard not to freak out. Hoping you get positive news.

Hey--look up FAP (Familial ??? Polyposis), my guess is that is what they will come back with due to such a large number of polyps. My best friend has that--when she was in her early 30s she thought she had a hemorrhoid and turned out she had nearly a hundred polyps lining her colon. Fortunately not a one of hers came back with cancer so let's hope that is the case for you as well! Your body just produces large quantities of polyps and hopefully they were caught quick enough. I must give you something to think about however--with that many polyps, you may be advised to have your colon removed as it is likely your body will keep producing them and you will always have to stay ahead of them so they don't have a chance to turn cancerous. Yes, you can get a colonoscopy every year, but it depends on how quickly your polyps grow that that may not be the smartest plan. Naturally there is no way to know until you hear back from the biopsy reports and speak with your physician, I just wanted to share that with you as food for thought based on what I know of large amounts of polyps in one's colon. As for my friend, she did have to have her colon removed. That was over fifteen years ago and she leads a busy and normal life and no major health issues all things considered! Good luck, here's to hoping you don't have to join our club!

8/12/15 Biopsy from colonoscopy confirms RC (45 yrs old--zero family history!)
9/21 - 10/29/15 chemorad 28 tx (with Xeloda)
12/17/15 APR with perm colostomy
Pathology report stages me as IIIA (T2N1M0)--1/15 LN detects cancer
2/3/16 chemo port inserted
2/8-6/2/16 8 rounds of Folfox
