CEA level increased

Postby My 4 loves » Thu Mar 02, 2017 10:34 pm

Hi everyone!

This is my first post. Long story short I was diagnosed with stage 3C CC -sigmoid in 8/15 at the age of 36. I had 1 surgery, radiation & chemo. Last day of chemo was 5/16. Pet scan was clear in 7/16 and recently had a colonoscopy in 1/17, which was clear. Went for my 3 month checkup and now I have to have a CT scan because my CEA level has increased to 8.1 from 2.4. My CEA levels always ranged from 1.0-2.8. I'm scared and pray that it's nothing.

Hi ,
A big welcome to the forum . You will be busy with four children. How wonderful.
CEA can be very scary when it rises but as so many other things can cause it to go up the only way to give peace of mind is to check it out. Anxiety soars with any CEA rise . But hopefully it will settle for you .
Take care,

CEA can begin to rise 4 to 8 months before something is large enough to be dx'd on a scan. CEA is more indicative of liver involvement than lung. My CEA topped out at 8.4 when I had a lung met smaller than a dime, five years ago. I had a liver resection with no follow up chemo. A tiny met that can be surgically removed can lead to a cure.

Best of luck!
