Allergies

Postby recruiter » Thu Mar 02, 2017 9:26 am

Having a terrible time this week with my allergies. Warm weather is something I love, but I'm paying for it.

What, if anything, can you guys do medicinally to survive? I assume the pills are verboten. Any sprays work?
DX Stage 4 2/16 with lung mets
4/16 CT, PET show "marked improvement" in size and number of lung mets, rectal tumor.
8/16 "Great report" from scans, lung mets continue to shrink in size and number, CEA 1.6, cancer "in remission" but surgeon believes tumor remains too large.
10/16 Xrays for constipation problems reveal tumor occupies 25 percent of rectal canal: Occupied 80 percent upon diagnosis 2/16
12/16 Back on Avastin; tumor can be removed, but need better margins.

Hi Bill,
I've really been struggling with allergies also. This year is terrible.

As per my oncologists recommendation, I use Flonase nasal spray. It's available over the counter, and usually get a 3 pack at Costco. I have been using benadryl, and am thinking of switching to something else, because it just doesn't seem to work very well, and makes me sleepy. Finally I've started with guaifenisen also known as Mucinex. It helps thin the mucus making it less annoying.

You may want to ask your onc if any of these would help in your case.

Best Wishes,

Flonase works wonders! That is what I take on a daily basis. Just know that it takes about 5 days to really work.

Your onc is OK with Flonase?

I'll try one today.

I was allowed to use Afrin Nasal Spray while on chemo so you might ask your onc about using it. If fact, some oncs recommend Afrin to patients who take Avastin to prevent nose bleeds. So it can do double-duty :-)
Stage IVb, liver/lung mets 8/4/2010
Xelox+Avastin 8/18/10 to 10/21/2011
LAR, liver resec, HAI pump 11/2011
Adjuvant Irinotecan + FUDR
Double lung surgery + ileo reversal 2/2012
Adjuvant FUDR + Xeloda
VATS rt. lung 12/2012 - benign granuloma!
VATS left lung 11/2013
NED 11/22/13 to 12/18/2019, CEA<1
