I have to say----the talent sure escaped me @ the initial tryouts. Pleasantly surprised overall. Possibly it was the song choice?? b/c in the past some blew it out of the water from the getgo. Also happy to see the coaches have tamed it down

Blake Shelton has the wit, if not much of a singer, to put people on stage. Imagine Alicia Keyes, at the Houston Rodeo. Every judge on the voice, has benefited by Blake's association. Realize, that the show is probably shot in a few days, and redundant costumes, such as Mileys, pajama's for a few weeks, is highly expected ! I enjoy the spin Alicia puts on things, as many of her team, could be gargantuan !

My vote is still totally 100 % undecided

folks have gone home who should be here ....
and I agree potentially the best raw talent so far ... BUTT also the most frustrating "process" so far

I am liking the youngens

IF I had their talent at 13,14,15 ...

DAMN

TBD

Have to agree w/you, Bro Nut, on the Blake wit vs. talent. Though he can certainly carry a tune, appears to excel in business smarts.
CRguy...look for some of those to be coming back when the coaches each get to choose one to return for a 2nd shot.
Haven't watched this wk's on the DVR yet so will catch up over the weekend.

I think Hunter is my favourite? Ive been lustening to his Sia cover of Elastic Heart on repeat.

Celine says it like it is. I'd definitely be up for Paul Simon.

Steph, I know who Sia is & have seen her perform on the show, but not familiar w/her music. I c/n understand one word Hunter sang of the song. Was it only me?

I don't know who is my fav yet, but I do think Jesse Larson "killed it" w/the Stevie Wonder song this week!

you make a great point BS
often when we hear folks in the rehearsals or the studio takes = their voices come thru or are miked differently ????????

on the live shows = not as much ... SO those who can project with a clear lyric get my attention
those who have great "tone" in their voices sing tones BUTT the words get lost
don't think it is their experience levels 'cos I have made the same comments to wifey over the past 6 years I've been watching

I am a "sound-o-phile" audio geekhead from about ...TOO many years ago
and built my own equipment, played, did radio broadcast, and sound engineered other performances =
there IS something different with the "live shows"

GREAT BAND !!!!!! GREAT GREAT GREAT BAND !!!!!!!!!!!!

BUTT sometimes on the stage the background vocals and live band make the performance OR break the performance WRT singer clarity.

The band is very good, no question, but it's not about the band on this show. In the studio, the full band is not playing, nor backup singers. Think of the music greats in our parent's generation...the bands did not camouflage the flaws of a voice. However it is our generation that brought along Bob Dylan, mouth full of sludge, & Janis Joplin screaming @ the top of her lungs! 8)

CRguy wrote:BUTT sometimes on the stage the background vocals and live band make the performance OR break the performance WRT singer clarity.

Ya, you're right about that. Could be a combination of things, but watched again on youtube. Could understand the first few lines better, but mid song on, the mouth formation remained open to hit the notes in the melody. Just not the song for him. But there have also been times the band seems to outplay the vocalist on the show. No doubt the acoustics of empty auditorium vs full auditorium come into play as well.

Song choice is crucial I'm coming to learn. I think Stevie Wonder songs are risky for most singers to pull off.
There's a few that stand out in my mind & a few I was surprised that made this wk's elimination.

I wish they would change the program scheduling/layout. It's an investment in time to have 2hr shows back to back Mon/Tues., assuming one wants to keep up w/the news or other things.

BS- I replayed it on youtube trying to pretend I didn't already know the lyrics and yeah I agree with you, his vocals are not clear in it, and he does tend to sing more quietly with less power than some of the others, which is unfortunate, but hey he's still making history by having two top itunes hits before the lives? So he is doing something right? :)
Yeah Jesse Larson was good too! Who do you think is going to win though? Too early to bet?

I thought Monday's show went to Hunter and the 2 youngens ... DAMN they are good !

AND ....Shania, just another mega-talented Canuck girl like Celine !!!!!
Great addons to the coaching group this year.

Will watch later with the elimination night (recorded and "in the can") to see who leaves, and won't say,
BUTT there are 3 who I don't think had great nights on Monday ... just says me who can't sing a note

STILL finding the sound / miking different on the lives and some voices just get lost which is a shame.
even tried playing back thru a different setup here with same results.
might try to pick up some online performances instead just to compare

kickass BAND !!!!! love those guys !

Cheers
CR

(( PS Ok I peeked ... and based just on Monday, I would have chosen the other one to go BUTT still need to see this show ))

CR have you watched the elimination yet?!

Is the format the same now until the end of the show- where one person goes home each week and only the public is voting with no coach influence? I've never watched a full season so this stuff is new to me.

The band is impressive. Is there anything they can't learn in time?!

Gwen is growing on me as a coach now. At first I wasn't sure she was offering too much to the singers, and 2/3rds of her team is stolen, but Im liking her more now. I found it interesting to hear Hunter say in an interview I saw online that Alicia focuses more on the emotion as a coach, and Gwen focuses more on the performance, and basically Gwen is a good fit for him that way.

Watched the show .... AND .....
disagree with some choices = nothing new for ME  !!!!

Format ???? probably some variation on the past formats BUTT not 100% sure, and don't think it is
1 off per show from now on ?????
I think they mess and tweak the numbers with every new iteration of lives and comebacks ??????
All up to social media AFAIK which to me = popularity contest versus actual "talent" judging ....

Interesting about your comments :
Gwen = no huge fan of hers as an artist ... "no doubt" ...but I agree she brought some coaching chops ESPECIALLY with Celine !!!!! WORD !!!!!

Alicia : without a doubt THE most soulful and talented artist that show has ever seen ... all in !!!! WORD !!!
as a coach .... ummm Ok maybe too into the "self" .. her singers, not hers, when advising ...
BUTT are they ready for that message ?????????????????

" When the student is ready ... the teacher will appear. "

Also : Adam's team tribute to Grimmie ... was very heartfelt and moving.
His own performance in that number is probably the best I have seen by a coach ... EVER on that show.
She was a sweetie and very talented.

If there was an award for the most improved, I'd say 15 yr old Brennley Brown. She really did a great job on Mon's show singing Linda Ronstadt's "Long, Long Time".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whcvmoQ8_sI

For myself, I guess I look for consistency, but I can see where some coaches see opportunity as Adam expressed re: Mark Isaiah in just having a little more time w/him.

Song choice does make a difference & acoustics as we've noted.

15 yr old Alijah Moulden is good every single time in voice & stage presence, can sure belt it out.

Demographic/song familiarity must also play into the voting results.
