New spots on the liver

Postby Joecool1983 » Mon Feb 20, 2017 5:18 pm

So, I had a CT scan 3 weeks ago anda PET scan last Friday. Both have showed new spots on my liver which my oncologist calls concerning. Also my oncologist says my CEA levels have spiked. He is 90% certain my cancer has spread to the liver. I am meeting with the surgeon tomorrow.

I am sorry to hear this news...but please stay positive. Be sure and write down all the questions you have when meeting the surgeon and oncologist. It's important that you know the specifics from both of them, and that they work together. It's too early to predict what will happen as you don't know your options, but I believe you will have them. Hang in there....don't let this dampen your spirits, and let us know when you know. All the best. Andre

Hi ,
Glad you have a meeting lined up for tomorrow.
Hope you get a good plan in place.
My mum had extensive surgery and it remains clear nearly six years later. However her surgeons first liver resection patient is still clear 20 years later.
Best wishes ,

So, I met with the Surgeon yesterday. He confirmed that I definitely do have 3 Metastases on the Liver. He said they want to avoid surgery for right now. He said I will probably be getting 6 months of chemo to shrink the meatases and kill and cancer cells in the body. So next I have to meet with my oncologist to determine the type of chemo. But, before that, on March 6th, I will be getting a Rectal Balloon Dilation. Hopefully it will fix the bowel issues that have been plaguing me

chemo 1st seems the way to go--I went for resection of residual tumor/node in August--they found 8-12 areas in the liver-closed me up and back on Folfiri since then (they felt if they attacked the liver then it would delay the start of chemo) so here I am 6 months later and hopefully surgery at MSK next month with HAI pump--it was very frustrating - I just felt it was more time for tumors to grow, I just want all of it cut out and go from there BUT I'm willing to defer to experience

hang in there-

Hi,
My mum went to chemo first too. It was a good plan and supported by the world health organisation at that time.
All the very best,

Hi Joecool1983,
My hubby also had 3 liver mets.
He was told by the liver surgeon:
"Best to have no more then 4-6 chemo before surgery" - he had 4, and 8 after.
But maybe it depends on the size of the mets? And also we live in Europe so perhaps a different protocol.
Best of luck with your treatments !
