Low WBC months after chemo stops

Postby spinnz » Tue Nov 22, 2016 10:39 am

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else experienced a low WBC after chemo? I finished my last dose of Xeloda last may and my WBC recently dropped from around 3.4 to 2.7. I had a bone marrow biopsy yesterday, (holy shit), and now I'm freaking out waiting for the results. Thanks for your replies.

It took eight months for my WBC, RBC, HGB, HCT, and platelets to reach the normal lower limit. They are all still well below what they were before I started treatment.

We've bought a Coriolus versicolor supplement, Coriolus Super Strength, a PSK clone to boost WBC and platelets, from 1 cap (600 mg), up to 6000 mg per day for maximum but expensive benefits. High dose CSS is a little harsh on an empty stomach, and has been difficult to maintain even 2000 - 3000 mg per day over a year's period with everything else supplement wise. The cheaper Coriolus varieties are usually more like chinese PSP (higher yield with an alcohol extraction process) and may boost WBC even more but at the expense of RBC in our limited experience. On permanent chemo RBC was a big issue too, so we stuck with the CSS. PSP and PSK may interact with the cancer itself somewhat differently.

We still got good results even when putting them in whey protein shakes.

Low dose lithium is also reputed to help WBC.

Same here. My last chemo was 13 months ago. My whites have seen ranged in the 3-4 range, currently 4.01. Lymphocytes have been chronically low, currently 1.0 with the highest reading 1.2 this past summer. Will be taking a Radiation sensitizing dose of 5FU soon. Hoping I won't need Neupogen to get me through the six weeks.
Glad to hear your results were all good.
