Wow, Eric, the powers-that-be are really dealing you a rough hand. I hope your new treatment works and I hope you and you wife get to enjoy the holidays. Commuting into the city can be frustrating (to put it mildly!) but you are in the best possible hands. Best wishes and lots of good luck to you!

Hello,

I am a new member and I have read many of your posts over the past few months. It is incredible that you have so much compassion for other people in times when you have to deal with personal challenges and how you share your experiences and the learning we get from it. I am truly thankful, humbled and I am sure all will be well.

Cancer diagnosis is no longer a death sentence. It is just a complex chronic decease, which needs to be managed. Like high blood pressure. Just side effects from blood pressure medication is a bit easier ( :) then from current chemo cocktails, which are available. We live in times when technology is developing at light speed. I am no longer too obsessed with "cure" concept. Just chronic decease concept which can be managed until we die from something else (like old age for example).

Thank you.

I agree with you, BUD. I'm not looking for a cure, just a path forward that keeps me alive and more or less viable. I think it's a race against time, but I guess so is life in so many ways.

That is an unbelievable amount for one person to endure. I wish I could say something to make it better. Keep up the good fight!
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 13 years NED). Is this real life?

BrownBagger, there are many, many people here, both past and present, who owe a great debt of gratitude to you for your inspiration over the years.
Here's a quote from four years ago that I just ran across the other day. It's from one of our former members, lohidoc

On August 26, 2012, lohidoc wrote: ... There are some extraordinary individuals on this site. There is brownbagger, who has gone through numerous treatments and surgeries, and who gets on his bike and rides 50 miles two weeks after a bilateral thoracotomy. There is skifletch, a science writer who knows more about cancer and chemo than any oncologist. If you want to know if you can go scuba diving while on avastin he will give you the answer. There is Bev, a long term stage 4 survivor, the wife of an Ob/Gyn, who has motherly advice for anyone....etc.

And some of the Newbies here probably don't realize that BrownBagger has kept everybody up to date with regular BrownBagger photos and updates for many years:

Hey Eric,
This is James in Exeter, NH. Sorry to hear the news. Your strength is incredible though I'm sure there are times it flags and it sounds like you have the love of a great woman, family and friends to pick you up and keep you going.

If you ever just want to talk writing and wood, I'm a current writer and former sawyer for the Forest Service, let me know.

Take care,
James

Good to see a new message from you, even though the message is mixed. I don't often come across new messages from alumni who joined in the 2008-2010 period; although I noticed that BevG. is also among the respondents to your note.
Good luck.

Hey BB - sorry to hear about your difficulties. You are one tough mother. God bless you. I've been thinking about you and gardening and wood stacking. Wondering where your pictures were. I see you had other priorities and I'm thankful you checked in. May the force be with you.
