I became type 2 during chemo. The steroids sent my blood sugar over the top and now manage by meds. Diabetes is a side-effect of chemo. It is hard on all your organs. It ages your body a lot quicker.

A1c numbers-measure back 90 days and done by lab. The 620 number is blood glucose number and done by lancet and glucose meter. You can do this.
Stage 4 Age 56 BrafV660E 5/14
spot on perit/ Right side tumor
Resctn 6/9/2014
Folfox strt 7/2014. 6 of 12 tx
Chemo induced DM2
Pet 4 mets to lung (1 cm, 6 mm) Xeloda/Avastin 9/16 to present.
Cryo-ablation to four spots- Collapsed lung/chest tube 2x
Possible local recurrence in a spot or two on PET. Stable CT

Hi Nick,

Long time no hear!

I'mm sorry to hear of your new diagnosis. I doubt it is due to the cancer. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease and is really quite different from type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes could indeed be induced by the steroids that are often given with chemo. This would NOT be something that would happen 9 years later. New type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed earlierf in life but it can start at any time. Good luck getting it under control and getting used to the routine.

Best wishes to you,

Bev

While I am not a diabetic YET, I am slowly heading in that direction. Have a few relatives who are there (thus in the family), and I've been told with the steroids I've received through the years, yeah it probably gonna happen.

One day at a time. Good luck,
