Scans tomorrow-Updated

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Mon Oct 17, 2016 7:59 am

My yearly ct scans are tomorrow. I drink some gastrografin mixed with juice tonight, more an hour before my scans and the rest half an hour before my scans. I have to take two 50mg doses of prednisone 12 hours apart today, 50mg of prednisone the morning of my scans. I also have to take 50mg of Benadryl before my scans because of a severe allergy to ct contrast dye. I am always nervous when they inject the contrast but so far the prednisone and Benadryl have prevented any reaction. Gastrografin usually gives me diarrhea after my scans. Last year I had to wait 15 days before seeing my GI surgeon for the results of my scans. I see him whether the news is good or bad. I expect to wait at least 15 days or longer for my results. Good luck to anyone else scanning in October!

Thank you. I hope so too but everything is slow here. They don't email or fax the results report. They mail it to the doctor. The mail isn't sorted here. It's sent to another city an hour and a half away and then sent back. So it can take a couple of weeks or longer for the doctors to get the results. Then it's hard to get in to see my GI surgeon because he's always booked up and is only in his office limited hours most days.

Hope all is well. I just had my annual a week ago. Haven't heard anything yet. I hate this waiting and the anxiety that goes with it.

Good luck with your scans. Waiting is hard. I'm not sure if the protocol is different in Canada than in the US, but I physically go to the CT scan facility 24 to 48 hours after the scan and get a copy of the ct scan on cd and the radiologist's report. You can as them about whether you can do that.

Thanks testing! Unfortunately all ct scans are done at our local hospital. Results can take 8 to 10 days. CDS aren't available. I don't get copies of my results. My doctors get reports.

Thank you jhocno and CRguy! Unfortunately 4 hours after drinking 500ml of gastrographin mixed with my cranberry juice I have horrible cramping and diarrhea. Last year I didn't get diarrhea until after my scans. I still to drink over another 250ml tomorrow. :( I can't take immodium because even one pill would cause me to be constipated for days. I hope I will be able to sleep tonight.

Hello Darkness,

Fellow Canadian here but on the other end of the country. Hope all goes well tomorrow. One thing a nurse friend suggested to me was to book my Dr. appt for about 7 days after the CT. That way I don't have to wait for them to call and then have to wait another week for an opening. On this end of the country the reports are usually in to the Dr in 7 days. :) Hope to hear that you have a positive scan.
